Two hard drive but computer recornize one hard drive

Hi, I did replaced my old hardrive(160 Gb) which can't boot up and load the OS last time with the same size 160Gb hard drive . So I did replaced it but I just tried to put also the old one if it will work ,when I checked my computer/rt click/disk management I saw two hard drive as both active as Master but the old one I did placed it at slave at the back of the hard drive.And they all healthy (active and system).But when I checked my computer it shows only C drive not both of them. Do I need to reformat the old drive so it will recorngnize it as a slave drive?
 
You may need to check the jumper settings on the secondary drive, setting the jumper to slave or cable select either one should work. Also if you want to use the secondary drive for just storage space, then you should probably delete all partitions on the drive and format it.
 
I am noobie, I know I did put the secondary drive to slave ,what's cable select? how to I do that? How do I delete all partitions and reformat it?
 
To set the drive to cable select, there should be a jumper setting on the HD labeled CS. As far as deleting the partitions and formatting. As far as formatting the secondary disk, I would bring up a command prompt, go to start/run and type in cmd. then type format (drive letter of drive you want to format) ex. format d:

To reformat that secondary (slave) drive, you can go back to Disk Management, where you were earlier that you saw both drives as active, find the disk that you want to format, right click it and select 'format'.

In the disk management format is in gray can't even click it , I 'll try the commnad prompt and format drive 0 as the disk management shows. Thanks to both of you ,Cheers.
 
Hi Thanks for helping me I did reformat it as you (both guys) just told to do ,this forum helped me a lot in my problem with my two computers. Is there any chance that if I want to install Linux-Ubuntu in my other drive which I reformat , how should I do that just to use in browsing website ? For program I intent to work in window XP.
