4870x2 in Crossfire

Hrm...I guess just the 4870. X2 is just two slapped together right? I would assume the length would be the same with double the width?

No, the 4870 X2 is a single-PCB card with two GPU's, so it's a few inches longer.

so let me get this straight.

a 4850 x2 is overkill for a 17-22" monitor?

Yes, I would agree. Especially for anything below 22". The additional mirrored video memory only benefits you in ultra high resolutions. Of course, at any resolution, I think the added memory would help you increase AA and AF settings, although I still believe a single 4870 or GTX260/280 would suffice.

Especially with that CPU and RAM. Overkill to the max. Get yourself a 8800GTS (G92), save your money and be done with it.

Yeah, if you're gonna run a P4 and DDR memory with this card, save your money for some updated components. At least a P35 or better Intel Chipset with a Core 2 Duo proc.

im going to assume P4 means pentium 4, because i cant think of anything else it may stand for.

The card would not be for the system in my signature thing below my posts. Its for a new build that im in the process of getting. Ill show you what i have so far.

Would you recommend any changes or anything? and im still missing a mobo lol

Any of the ASUS X58 boards are good. You can get the EVGA board for $289.99 shipped if you use the following promo code: EMCABAGCC

The 4850X2 is going to be an extremely tight fit in the 900. I've read that it's longer than the 4870X2. Keep that in mind when you make your final case decision. If you're going to run the 900, you may want a modular PSU to keep the interior cabling clean, and you still need a hard drive.

I think you should do 3 in triple crossfire.

Driver support doesn't exist for 6 GPUs.
