P4 Processor Cores

CLICK!

northwood processors are more popular with overclockers cuz they overclock alot higher and are more flexible than the prescott chips. i personally would go for a northwood processor if i had an Intel setup. but as you will also see from the link above is that the AMD FX-53 kicks both there butts lol. so maybe you should consider that? they are compared stock but if you compared them overclocked the northwood would go higher and come out on top (or so i have seen.) the FX-53 will also overclock VERY well and still beat both of the,..but not everyone has that kind of $$$$.

True although if you're considering a P4E then the FX53 (or even the FX51) isnt that much of a stretch of the budget and offers the 64bit support (if you do stuff that takes use of it) :)

eyah i dont imagine anyone here really NEEDS 64bit processing judging by the posts. i joined here in the hopes to help cuz some of the threads i was reading were...how shall i say...n00b? (no offense anyone). but there are people here smarter than me too...just havent read anyone saying they need 64bit apps or anything.or even that they know the benefits of 64bit processors.

Yep I hear ya! 64Bit support is really, for the time being, only needed for math/video type applications so if you're going to be doing that then by all means..... however for people with say, P3's or Durons or Thunderbirds looking to upgrade and dont want to go Intel then A64s are a very competitive line of products and offer significant performance jumps over the Barton chips (IMO, the Barton line, while good, was dragged on way to long heehe... not to mention that the XP3200 has no chance in hell of competiting with a P4-3.2 ... a P4-2.8, P4-3.0 maybe but not the P4-3.2)

the barton is still new to me. i just got it about a month ago (upgraded from a 2400 Athlon XP TBred). im still exploring it. but once i get an actual job im thinking about saving for a NICE PC. ive always upgraded slowly, wait at least 5months b4 i could even afford it. been kind of a thing i couldnt afford...once i get a paycheck it'll be more of a hobby than an addiction lol

I like how this post pretty much still holds true after 5 years, although it's slowly evolving.

I just realized this post was from 2004, and your right :D The post still holds true.

Hmm...how foolish I was in 2004. I still don't have a nice computer. AHAHAHAHA!
haha, you were MUCH smarter then me though in 2004, as I didn't even know what 64 bit meant :P

And what's with the dead thread revivals today?
I bumped this thread, but only to show that over the course of 5 years there are still very little 64 bit apps. The other person was bumping threads for no reason though.

I wasn't referring to you anyway :)
