Time for a new monitor

Its time for me to upgrade from my old 19in monitor. Im looking for a new 22-24in monitor that will last me for a while. I rather spend another $100 than get a half ass mystery brand monitor so im here for some pointers. What resolution should I get? Does gaming look better on gloss or brushed finish? Is 2MS response time noticeably sharper compared to 5ms? Is 1920x1XXX res remarkably better than 1650x1XXX? What contrast ratio should I be looking for? I appreciate any help :). Heres some monitors I found skimming through newegg.

this one is perty
lower refresh rate but looks fantastic

Well with any Samsung monitor, they warrant it for 3 years. 1 year replacement (new) then 2 years replacement refurbished. When my 19" went out they replaced it with no questions asked aside from when I bought it (to confirm with the registration number I had). So you may want to take that into account when buying.

That being said, I have that same Acer monitor sans the built in speakers and it works great. No problems aside from 2 stuck pixels upon arrival but they're not noticeable unless you know they're there (and, unfortunately, I'm well aware that they're there. Others don't notice them though).

And I still have that Samsung 19" that I talked about before (dual monitor set up). So I'd go with either a Samsung or the Acer one, just from what I've seen on mine.

Funny, I'm looking for a new monitor too and the two that you pointed out are the ones I'm trying to decide between.

I have an Acer 22" monitor for a few months now and it's working great (Got it at best buy for $267 when it costs $160 on newegg-.- I'm dumb)

thx for the replies guys. Now i want to know if 5ms and 2ms response times are noticeably different? $10 dif is nothing

Looks pretty solid. I myself haven't seen an Asus monitor in person i can't really help you there. For the 1080 dealio Im not too sure because i'm not big on the gaming :) But i would suppose that it depends on the games.

I was just at Bestbuy and they had a Samsung 22" for $200. It was a pretty nice looking one but I opted for the Dell E228WPF instead because I like its more simple and rugged design. The Samsung was a bit more tipsy on its stand.

samsungs definetly have weaker stands since all kinds of their TVs are very wobbly including the 37in I just got. I might go check best buy one more time before I decide on anything. the 24in is rly tempting cuz its freakin huge and ill have the biggest monitor in all the land :D. The 24" seems to have bleeding on the top and bottom edges :(.

have you ever thought about dueling monitors? Like 2 19 Inch Acers?
If i bought another one of my monitors it would be about the same price as a 24" or even maybe cheaper

On newegg you can get 2 19" Acer X193W+BD's for about 280 with free shipping. Link

I myself have the Acer X193W and its one great monitor

If your video card has the capability I second that you dual monitor. Either keep your old 19" and get a 22" wide screen (will be same height as the 19") or just buy a new standard 19".

Love dual screening. I now hate using my laptop because it's so inefficient switching back and forth between windows instead of flicking the mouse over to the other screen.

I want a nice big monitor for gaming in HR. 1980x1200 is an insane resolution so Im probably going to have to replace my HD4850.
