Looking for the impossible?

I have a slim case, and with a new video card, I have need for an upgrade to my power supply.

My current power supply is approx. 7x2.5x2.5 and a max of 250w. I need at least 500w.

So far in my search online, all psu's that fit my wattage is far too large for the tower. Any suggestions apart from getting a new tower?
 
Might want to check out Galazy PSU they are longer but thinner.

But what is going to happen is you most likely wont find a quality one with that size...so its a new case OR you can sticky tape the PSU to the back side of the case and drag the wires through like I had done on my mini-tower years ago.

If you look, I asked for a power supply which would fit in my case. I do not want to buy a different case to use this one card. (If I were to buy a case then I would replace all parts, including the card.)

The dimensions of my current psu is 7Wx2.75Hx3.5D, but it has room for an extra inch on the width.
 
The Galaxy comes in two models, 850 and 1000W. I chose to look at 850 because that has the higher probability of fitting my case.

Unfortunately, it is slightly too large on two dimensions. The case will tolerate a power supply up to 3.5 inches high, 8 inches long, and 2.75 inches wide.
 
Even if you do manage to find a PSU that'll fit into the Dell (which is very unlikely), you might just run into trouble with Dell's proprietary connectors. Take a good look at the motherboard before buying a new powersupply.
 
gah... sounds like it's time to buy a new computer. that or have a friend build one.

what about supplemental power supplies? i found this one, which has a PCI-E connector, but I'm not sure if it's compatible, and I know next to nothing about motherboards.

Those will take some load off the main powersupply to power the video card. It will only take as much power as your video card draws from the PCI-Express power connectors though.
