ok so about a year ago i had a custom built system and i purchased a seagate 500 gig sata...well over the past year i've loaded almost 80% of it up, so i'm thinking about upgrading to a 1 or 1.5 tb drive...my question is, is how easy is it to transfer all the data on my current drive to the new one? i don't mind having to reinstall the OS (which is xp btw), but do i have to reload all my programs and files all over again?...also my current drive i'd like to keep as a second slave drive...but will i have to reformat this drive since it has the OS on it?...i'd like to keep the old drive how it is with backups of my current files...im just curious if there is a easy way of doing all this...also with the new harddrive, do you guys recommend Seagate again, or another brand? i've been out of the loop for a year and i'm not sure what's the best recommendations as far as new technology with harddrives go...thanks guys...:D

If iw ere to get another HDD i'd keep the one i already have as the main drive and only have important things on it like the OS and things to go with the OS then make a partition of that drive for something like programs and and move all my Music movies and such into the new HDD

Why don't you just buy another drive and use it for all your data? It's always best to keep your OS and programs on one drive and your important data on another. If you want to buy a bigger drive all you need to do is just clone your existing drive to the new one. Usually you can download the utility from the drive manufacturer of your new drive.

easy, just get your new hard drive and fit it and then drag all you want to transfer to your new drive then you could format your old drive and re-install windows fresh on it.

then you have your old drive for Windows & applications and your new 1-1.5Tb drive for storage :)

and yes Seagate are a gerat drive makers.

Use acronis and clone your disk to the new one that way you dont have to install applications OS games programs etc

hey is there any place online you guys recommend purchasing the harddrive? i was looking at amazon, cause newegg didn't have the one i have in stock, but some reviews i was reading complained about the way amazon ships out the harddrives, sometimes not in static bags and sometime they send ones DOA...anywhere you guys recommend?
