Screenshot Contest: Landscape/Scenery

Well, recently, there was a little grumbling in the "Screenshot Contest Thread" so I thought I'd be cool to actually try to have a screenshot contest.

Since this is the first one, we'll make it sort of a trial run because theres a few things that need to be clarified IMO.

First off should it have a theme?
Imo, it should because theres so so many screenshots. The topic could be anythign from Landscape/Scenery (which I figured would be a good easy one to start with) to a genre such as MMORPG or FPS...whatever the winner's heart desires.​

Also, what resolution should the shots be posted in?
Theres a few things to consider when discussing this. First of all, we don't want to exclude too many people so it shouldn't be something ridiculous (i.e. due to my monitor (and its location), my max is 1440 x 900) and also, people should be able to crank up graphics on lower resolutions...so I was thinking maybe max width of 1280 would be good.​

Judging?
Obviously this theme will be based on beauty and graphics however this doesn't always have to be the case. For example, some one could have the theme be comedy (or something along those lines). So I guess its hard to set a judging criteria. It sorta depends on the theme and I guess the themes will probably be self-explanitory.​

I'm sure theres many other issues we'll come across as we go but imo, the best way to figure out problems is to run through...so with no further ado, let the first (really the second ;) ) screenshot contest begin:

So, why should we let all the people with the fancy cameras have all the picture taking fun. Post up your screenshots of something pretty (scenery or landscape) from your favorite video game.

Rules will be similar to the Photo Tourney rules
  • Theme: Landscape
  • Max Entries: 10 (Maybe more if there's interest)
  • Max width: 1280px
  • Deadline for Submissions: 1/14/08 (Subject to change)
  • No spot saving, you will only be counted if you have an image submitted.
  • Only one screenshot may be posted at a time, if you decide to change it, please edit the original post.
(Rules subject to change)

When you post your shot, make sure to post what game it came from (just cause I suspect that may end up being a common question.)

Please post your suggestions as to how to make this contest run smoother.
It'll suck if you dont share your thoughts/comments/suggestions/ideas

On your mark, get set, GO!

Thanks to skidude for the original idea, just needed more organization ;)

Sounds like a great idea. I think having it near enough the same as the Photo Tourney like you said would be the best way of doing it, keeps it simple.

I might need some extra time for what I'm planning if thats okay?
and also can we edit our shots as long as every thing we put in originally came from the same game?

The top one is the one I want in the contest the second one is something I found cool in Crysis Warhead. It's like an ancient stone hedge thing. It's pretty cool.

Sweet, no one posted for a while so I was afraid you guys thought it was a bad idea.
Since there seems to be a bit of interest, I think we can take 15 entries (what are you all thinking about this). Im stoked we got 10 in one day :D.

Korn, I think yours is fine.

vroom_skies, flaron and angus, I guess you could submit those but if we're judging based on scenery/landscape, I dont think youre likely to get many votes. Nice screens, they just seem a little more action oriented.

Ducis, eh, I was thinking it would be just one shot. Im a little curious what you're working on haha.

Hyper_Kagome, is that a cinematic? I guess we need to decide on whether or not cinematics are legit.

So, everyone, youre input is needed on the following.
1) Are we accepting multiple shots stitched/photoshopped together?

2) Are we accepting screenshots of cinematics?



My personal opinion but its important you post yours as well (this is a community thing, not just me ;) )
1) I think it should be just 1 shot (like the photo tourneys. minimal editing only (cropping etc)

2) I really don't know. I feel rather indifferent which I guess means I'd be alright accepting them.

How is mine? I know I posted two screens but I just thought the last one is cool. It took me 10 mins to get up that hill to get the shot lol

I personally like this. I mean we always talking about how good the games looks but don't stop and smell the roses sorta speak.
And mine were not touched in either way.

I think it would be best if we said no to multiple shots/ photoshop and again no to cinematics and went for game play footage only as if we include cinematics every player could get the same screen shot for the same game

just my opinion on the matter
