Windows Activation Problems!

Alright, so I got a new gaming system and I put my old hard drive in. I got everything running smoothly; however, activating Windows is an issue.

I did not know at all that Windows wouldn't work if I switched to a new motherboard. So, I decided to bite the bullet buy a new activation key. I went to Microsoft's website, did whatever I had to do. But, I encountered a problem. They said to click "Activate Windows" in Accessories -> System Tools, but there is no such thing! According to Microsoft, my copy of Windows could be counterfeit. I know this is not true, because my hard drive is from a Dell XPS 200 and I know that Dell wouldn't do something like that... So what can I do? Any help is appreciated!
 
Your going to have to reinstall windows. You can't pull a HDD that has XP from a Dell on it and toss it in a custom computer.

I'm surprised it didn't boot loop on you in the first place.
 
ive personally called microsoft. not for a dell though. it was built years ago and motherboard took a dump. changed out and called microsoft and they did activate my key. maybe gave me a new one. don't remember. it was a phone call. didn't charge me either.

I had the same thing happen to me when using a key from an old compaq on a custom machine because my recovery disks didnt work. It is simple, just call MS and you would most likely get transferred to a call center in India. Just tell them your problem then you can activate your key, no charge.
 
Dont try what Vizy93 says about something cool in dos. First of all the command del means delete and y means yes. this will erase your harddrive and completely crash your computer since the C: drive is the main drive with all the system files on it.

Activation

Im having a problem with activation as well, you didnt have to buy a new activation key, you could of just used the telephone option activation and it works easier. if you cant get to the activation place, i could either just do start run %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a. Aside from all that if that doesnt work im sure you could find a crack for it online.

Talk of cracks is forbidden on the forum, not to mention cracks are illegal in general.
 
I ran %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a and I got a little problem; the screen stays white. Nothing happens. I left it for about 45 minutes and nothing. So does this mean that I can't activate Windows no matter what I do?
