Trying To Find A Laptop To Meet My Requirements...

hello, long time lurker, new poster :)

Im about to buy a laptop, it will be used for Professional Karaoke.

The Software i will be using is called PCDJ VJ http://www.pcdj.co.uk/shop/item.php?id=126
The Recommended system requirements for this program is :
VISTA
Dual Core 1.8GHz or better
DirectX9.0 Video Card such as:
Nvidia Geforce 8400 or better
4.1 DirectX or ASIO compatible soundcard (with front and rear separate outputs)
2 GB RAM
200 MB free on the hard-drive


now the processor, vista, ram and harddrive are not a problem and very easily found. Im strugglign to find a laptop which lists enough detail for my limited knowledge to understand.

There is one Major requirement, but no websites seem to mention it, i will need to output from the laptop into a traditional television (not flatscreen digital etc), ive been told S Video is the best way of doing this (converting it to Scart). I cant find any laptops that list an S Video output as a feature!!??

but no mention of S Video output and im clueless as to whether the graphics or sound are upto scratch?

Hi there, King Of Karaoke.

I would suggest a laptop from the Dell XPS range. The XPS M1730 comes with S-video output and is capable of running the programmes you have specified. There are currently a few deals floating around for the XPS M1730 and you could most probably pick one up for $1300. This is with the minimum specs (they are good enough for what you were after). I'm unsure you could get a laptop for what you are want for too much less than this without independantly constructing your laptop. Dell XPS M1730 is your best bet.

My bro just bought a laptop from Novatech (online store, UK). It had a 2.0Ghz Dualcore processor, a S-Video out (what you are after) and dedicated graphics. I'm not sure what the graphics card is, but Novatech do a lot of customisation so you should be able to find something suitable. Whats more.... it was £400, so in budget, unlike the £900 Dell that the above poster suggested!

Just noticed the soundcard. Most integrated soundcards allow you to 're-program' the microphone socket to be an output as well. Or perhaps you can get a USB soundcard as well, I'm pretty sure they exist. As always, please correct me if I'm wrong! Although that is an added expense! Doug
