Core i7 memory clock limit

Hello,

I am really confused many sites show that core i7 920 is only made for memory clock up to 1066 and no more. I see many of you are using core i7 920 with memory clocked above 1066.

How is it really? I dont get it...

With the modern motherboards the fsb and ram are separate so it is possible to oc your ram separately. I have ddr3 1600 but I had to OC it to get it to that speed.

ok... so I understand I cant get memory with over 1066 stock clock, simply wont go with i7. If I need I have to OC the mem right?

You are correct there is no "fsb" on the i7 but the QPI is basically the same thing.

What happens if I stick a at least 1333hz mem into MoBo with core i7 920?

well you have a choice of what multiplier to use with your memory,

if you run 200x20 on the processor, you could run x6,x8,x10 on the memory to have 1200(200x6), 1600(200x8) or 2000(200x10) MHz memory speeds.

I run 200x20 for daily use, and since my memory is some cheap DDR3 1600 at 9-9-9-24, I run my memory at the x8 multiplier so I can run it at stock settings.
