Questions about Linux

Hi,

i have a few questions reguarding Linux, in particular Ubuntu.

Would Ubuntu work and make full use of my Quad core processor if i used the X64 bit edition?
i heard/read somewhere that you cant watch DVDs or something in Linux by default?

im thinking of dual booting Ubuntu and Vista together and using Ubuntu for general internet, watching movies, email, word processing etc and keep Vista for gaming only.
do you reccomend i do that?

thanks

Ubuntu should make use of all four cores just fine. :)

DVD's require you to install a plugin... it's really simple to do, but I do wish the Ubuntu folks would have stuff like that installed by default. :P

Also, you'll have to get the 64-bit flash plugin here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

Since the Windows 7 beta came out I haven't used Linux a bit, but I do like Linux better than Vista. :)

ahh so its just a plugin eh? i thought because of it been open source and all they wouldnt allow dvds to be played.
just something i read ;)

ive tried Windows 7,but its no good making it my default OS just yet because theres no drivers out for it,games wont run very well with there been no chipset drivers or anything for my motherboard.
maybe when its released though.

Does ubuntu start up fast?

Yeah, just a plugin, no biggie. :)

As far as 7 is concerned I've had no trouble with using Vista drivers.

Ubuntu start's up pretty fast... about the same a reasonable Vista startup, in the next release (9.04), they're trying to, among other things, make it start up very quickly... we'll see how it goes in April.

I just hope they get a better graphics team...
