DSL or Cable internet

What are your experiences if any having one or the other?

Which do you think is better, especially for online gaming?

In theory, Cable is supposed to provide you with faster speeds. But that's not always true. For example, you could have a 784kb DSL connection but have a 384kb Cable connection. Generally, this isn't true, but just make sure that you look at the different speed-to-price ratios.

Also, in my experience, Cable has provided a higher quality internet experience. But again, this depends on the ISP and other things.

So my vote is Cable, but there are lots of other factors. Maybe it would be useful if you were to post the companies such as Verizon vs Charter, speeds, and the area in which you live in. Then we could give you a better answer.

Thx for the reply. After researching it a little more I have found out the fios is unavailable in my area and the local provider's standard dsl is iffy at best and doesnt even come close to advertised speed alot of times as much cable does.

I think i will stick with cable for now.Thx for your help

I'm so getting Fios when i move into city, and Fios isn't cable internet it's fiberoptic internet, kinda like T1 but not as fast and cheaper

There are several pluses and minuses to both services. Cable has a higher overall capacity, but your connection speed fluctuates depending on who else in your area is online doing what on that same connection trunk as you. DSL has a lower overall capacity, but has a direct unshared link to the ISP's servers, therefore a more consistent and stable connection. However, the further that you are away from the ISP's servers, the slower these connections become, and DSL is much more heavily affected by these increased distances than their cable counterparts.

other than the techno stuff DCIScouts mentioned, Cable is so much quicker than dsl. OF course don't be stupid and just choose, look at the speeds and compare, but generally, cable is faster than dsl. I get like 750 kb/s down on a well seeded torrent :):):):)

The Fios here where I live is just mainly in new housing developments .The company North state communications that services my area has litestar which is fast but expensive for the speed.

You can't really say which is better...cable should be better if you look at it on paper. It all depends on the provider and the speeds that are actually delivered to your house. There are internet plans that don't run at advertised speed. Ask a few people in your area and see what they use and see what performance you get.

Here in Germany DSL is better...I have great DSL. This test is Germany to Chicago.

4 years of service and never once an issue.

Thats good speed for that distance. Our local Upload speed is 384 kbps for Road runner cable here (one of the slowest in the country .512kps upload for turbo with 10mbps DL.)

The Dsl here is max of 3mps DL unless you live in a fios neighborhood which I dont.

umm who ever said fios was nothing special fios download/upload speeds are like Download 40 mb/s Upload 20mb/s when cable is like Download 20 mb/s and Upload 8 mb/s Fios is clearly better but does cost more around $140 per month

My family had DSL and we recently switched over to cable. I think the cable is faster I dont have nearly as many problems with download times and such

Yeah same here cable here is a lot faster. When we had DSL it used to go down all the time and when we switched to cable it stopped happening as often only once in a while does it happen where it used to be 5-6 times a month.
