I'm a console gamer, I am still a noob to this pc gaming thing, here a list I made
AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor
4G RAM Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 4096MB 25
Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB Hard Drive
WINDOWS VISTA
BFG gtx 280
Ultra M923 ATX Black Full Tower Case
EVGA X58 SLI Motherboard
Ultra X3 ULT40312 850-Watt Power Supply

any comments and suggestions would be helpful

nice choices.....but they dont fit together.
lets start with the cpu:
AMD does not make a Phenom X4 9950 processor.
the 9950 processor is made my intel.
but the phenom is made by AMD

memory is fine but it really depends on the motherboard you are buying.

harddrive looks fine.

what version of vista?

the graphics card is fine. nice choice by the way.

case is fine i guess dont know the case by name. need to look it up but me too lazy :)

motherboard is good but that is an intel only motherboard. so your going to have to make a choice: AMD or Intel.

power supply is good also.

yes you can. but as i said before your going to have major compatibility issues with that current setup

and i would recommend vista home premium or vista ultimate. they both come in 64 bit versions

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor sounds good?

personally still a fan of XP myself and don't like Vista (don't ask why just don't )

any who your system seems excellent but im not sure the CPU exists
AMD make the Phemnom
but Intel make the 9950

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor sounds good?

sounds good but your going to have to find a different motherboard
search for one that has a socket 775 that is for the Core 2s

but personally i would recommend getting a quad core or an i7 processor. in which case that motherboard you have there already is good.
but you going to need to get ddr3 ram that comes in 3s

in order to use that motherboard, you'll need a processor with a form factor(not sure what to call it) of lga 1366, and as for ram, you can only use special ddr3 ram, any ddr3 that runs over 1.65 volts will shorten your processor's lifespan

The X58 Mobo works only with the I7's cpu's.You need to either change it or pick a I7 processor ,which is you best performance option

Here are components I would recommend:

AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core (2.3GHz) Processor

GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3 Motherboard

OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W Power Supply

Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop RAM

Seagate Barracuda Model ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive

SAMSUNG DVD Burner Model SH-S223Q

Parts I left out:

1) Case that fits an ATX motherboard
2) Operating System
3) Video Card (get a PCI Express X16 2.0)

I would get Core 2 Quad like Q9400 or Phenom II 920 or 940, I don't really like older Phenoms in terms of performance. And Core i7 is perfect but little pricey, just get the right combination like EVGA X58, 6Gb DDR3-1600, i7 920, GTX 280 or 260 Core i7, or better GTX 285.
For example my list would be:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
Gigabyte P45 UD3P (newer ones)
4Gb DDR2-1066
GTX 260 Core 216 55nm

I would overclock CPu to around 3.4Ghz, put it all in nice case like Antec 900 or NZXT Tempest, add any HDD and DVD, then install Vista Home Premium 64bit and play Crysis on High happily ever after

Well, that board is for I7's only (afaik from the site). Anyways, why not get a GTX295 OC'ed edition??? I'm looking at upgrading to that in trisli. Power will be immense, I can tell you.

not possible, you could only upgrade to 3 gtx 285's, gtx 295 is a dual gpu card, so only 2 in sli is possible

Oh yeah, having a "duh" moment. Ah well, might wait for some benchies to spend their money, and see which new combo works out best then. Since the 295 is not out, I hadn't actually read anything about it. However with the 280, and 285 being tri capable, didn't even know it was dual.

Is it gonna be another flop like the 9800GX2??? Please don't be another one of those pieces of crap.
