During startup I got a quick glimpse of the note, "Memory running at single channel." Or something to that effect. I've got DDR2 installed; that's dual channel right? Do I need to set something to make it run dual channel?

Have you got the two sticks installed in the correct slots on the mobo, ie same colour. (assuming the mobo is dual channel capable)

It is my first build. I'm sure I installed the modules is slots A and B. I don't think I paid attention to the color. I'm certain the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P is dual channel capable. I'm running XP Pro SP3.

Did you put the RAM in adjacent slots or did you leave an open one between them? If the RAM is side by side or 2 slots apart (although I think this one should still give you dual channel) then take one stick out and move it over 1 slot and that should do it.

DDR means Dual Data Rate, and in itself has nothing to do with Dual Channel; if you have a pair of same-sized sticks, they need to be inserted in the same-colored slots in the motherboard. If you only have one (or any uneven number) of sticks, or the sticks are of different sizes, you can't have the memory in dual channel (with exception of some motherboards that allow you to have different sticks in a mode called "Asynchronous dual-channel").

Placing the modules in the same color slots did the trick (just like the manual says to do ). I get a modest improvement is boot time, down 6 seconds to 55. The Windows boot screen still takes forever.
