HELP!! really big problem

i dual boot vista and xp. recently, my vista partition has been runnin low on space so i went over to XP, which has the partitioning software, and moved some free space over. the problem is, after this, when i boot in vista, it wouldnt start any process. i mean after i type the password at the log in screen, the screen remain either blue or black. i went to task manager and started explorer.exe and a message pop up, saying that im using a temporary user account. now, i could run any program once i start the explorer.exe but no setting from my account is there. i tried doing checkdisk via CMD but it says access denied. please help.
 
i noticed one thing, when i boot in vista (manually starting explorer.exe), the drive that is supposed to have vista is called F while the actual drive is G. tried sfc. didnt work.

I tried that. the repair process didnt find any problem

unfortunately there is not restore point.

is there anyway that i can do a repair install of vista? XP had that feature. i would like to try that before reformattin that partition since it's quite tedious to find all my files then back them up.
 
Oh no. That a bad news. You should create system restore frequently since most of windows problem cause is registry entry.

Anyway, after I read your problem for sometimes, I noticed something.
You said you moved some free space over. Do you mean you extend the volume in vista partition??

im not sure what the term is. what i did was to reduce the size of my C drive (XP) then increase the G drive (vista) by using that unallocated space created from the reduction.
 
I think I can see the problem now. I think What you did is alter the partition which is contain os. I don't know how to explain why, but doing so will affect the OS inside that partition. It is highly not recommended alter the partition which contain OS and by doing so, your windows files might be corrupt. Thats why when you try to repair from vista dvd, it say no prob found because the corrupted files might not a file that needed to boot.

thanks for your reply. is there anyway that i can do a repair install? like reinstall vista without reformatting.
 
in XP, i know there is an option to reinstall the OS without affectin user's files. was wondering if Vista has the same option. please help
 
I'm not pretty sure about that. Your data will not lost if you install vista from vista. I mean run the dvd from vista and install from there. Backup any files before proceed. After you installed, the old windows folder will be renamed to windows.old.

Note: Do at your own risk.

i just reinstalled vista. everything is fine so far. just one small problem. on the desktop, at the 4 corners, there is a watermark that says test mode. doesnt really affect anything. but i would like to know what that is and how to get rid of it? i googled but couldnt find what test mode is.
 
actually its vista 32bit. that also puzzle me because all the sites that i went to, the people who have the problem are 64bit users.
 
That happen if you’re using unsigned driver running in testsigning mode. Anyway, glad to be able to help.
