Hi, i have DSL and secutity suite from DSL, do i still need windows scurity downloads.windows keeps telling me your security downloads are ready.

too slow to start?

Yes you definitely do still need the windows updates they are important.

Thank you for you help, why my Vaio takes too long after it says welcome than vaio logo till i get it ready to start to use it,i counted 1m60s from Welcome than Vaio logo and the shortcuts items so i can use the laptop. This all happened after i installed the SP3 pack,i uninstalled it already but still no avail.funny is, if i restart it with the turn off /restart software it comes right up with no delays.any answer why Thanks in advance.

The security updates are very important. Take the recent Conficker/Downadup worm, for example. It has infected an estimated 15 million systems, yet Microsoft released a patch last October that fixed the vulnerability it exploits. The only reason it's been able to spread like this is that a very large number of people have never downloaded the update.

Malware authors are very good at exploiting these sort of vulnerabilities, and not having the latest security updates dramatically increases the risk of infection. If the automatic updates are giving you problems and you need to disable them, I recommend checking the Windows Update site regularly for new updates.

Idk I never do windows updates, and my computer is better than ever.

Until you get hit with a ridiculous worm or virus that exploits Windows in a way that a Windows Update fixed it. I mean most viruses exploit that stuff. That is how viruses like Sasser and the variants and the clones and similar viruses get spread so widely, because people don't run system updates.

I would keep on top of your OS updates for sure.

I have a question about the updates, windows keeps asking me to update but every time I did it would want me to update with the same update as I just updated. SO I just quit updating, but why would it do that?

I have a Vaio VGN-A195, and it came with XPSP1from factory, i Have DSL Verizon with Security SUITE ,and i downloaded SP2 and than SP3,and started to have connection drops i some times had to go in the fire wall settings and turn off and on to resume,(my signal is strong), and it keep droping every few minutes.(NOTE through cable connection never had problems)than i removed SP3 and samething,so i removed also the Verizon security suite and turned off laptop over night, than next day turned it on and it requested my wep key and it's good now, but have fire wall but no antivirus, and i'm afraid to download SP3 i fed up with making recoverys and downloads of SP2 and SP3 done about 6 alltoghether,i also noticed with SP3 a slow start up,any help would be apreciated.

It is important to re-iterate that a Service Pack is a LARGE collection of anywhere between 200-400+ updates and software patches, some of which can affect programs or hardware on your computer after install. This is why it is important to manually visit Windows Update every couple of months and/or use the Update Utility software that comes with most computers (I know Sony has one) in order to make sure that your manufacturer has not released new hardware or software updates that need to work in conjunction with Service Packs. A perfect example is when a security patch in Windows changes access to a certain level of the operating system and/or blocks code that tries to execute a specific string of operations. Sometimes the programs or drivers on your computer were coded in such a way that they were actually using vulnerable code or perhaps were allowed to run a string of operations that at the time were not seen as an issue.

Lastly, most Service Packs and Updates take up a significant amount of ahrd drive space, especially if you have not done them in quite a while and they all download at once. You might want to make sure your computer is not low on space. I usually recommend that XP users have at least 10GB free to allow restore points to be created, page file expansion, and the download of new updates, etc. Any less than 5GB or 10% free spage and Windows XP will start to choke.

Thanks; I finelly got my wireless connection going good;keep (your fingers crossed)i removed the Verizon suite protection last night, did not retart nothing i did shutdown and went to bed thinking that in the morning i would make full recovery and start fresh, but when i turned on the laptop tried to connect and it requested my WEP KEY, i put it in and it connected right away and has been running ever since without any fails. So i assume that verizon dsl security suite has conflicts with (Windows antivirus /Windows firewall)?: maybe also SP3,now i have micrsolft fire wall but no antivirus, and i'm afraid to download sp3 and get all this drops again, because one time i had sp3 intalled and i removed Verizon protection suite and it did not solve the problem, .Unless i did not do the right thing, any more tips and make me beleive that if i download Sp3 it wont start all over again,i've already made about 6 recoverys altogether, hope all this full recoverys wont wear off my hard drive? thanks in advance.

Forgot to tell you that i have 50% free space on C-Drive,and D as 95%free space. and my total HD is 60Gbts,mem ram 1Gbt.and 1.5Mgh processor.
