I need some advice in a new laptop. I will soon be graduating and going to school for digital editing. I be be using programs such as Adobe After Efects, Photoshop ect... I have not started to even price any laptops and therefore do not know my range, but would like to keep it below $2k usd. oh and some minor gaming wouldnt hurt either! I am NOT good at puting computers together either... so building my own would be out of the question. Thanks in advance.

I have one that'd fit the bill...well, besides minor gaming ;P

Hehe, if I were you, look around for a good intel based mutli-core processor, at least 2GB RAM, firewire, and some kind of dedicated video card.

One of my friends just got a Core 2 Duo 8400, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, and Nvidia 9600GS for about $750 from Best Buy. The only complaint so far is that it came with Vista 64 bit, so she's having some compatibility issues with her programs...

If you're going to school for digital editing/ computer graphics then you are probably better getting a desktop. For 2k you can get something a lot better and more powerful for the editing and stuff you might run into down the road. Video editing on a laptop seems kinda frustrating. That's only my opinion.

I agree that a desktop would be better in the long run, however, i need the laptop so that I can take it to class.

I suggest you get a desktop. However, you'd need to check if your need to use Apple Mac instead.

I have CS4 Ultimate Ed for Windows so I would hate to have to buy it again for MAC...

I work with a laptop atm, but it can get bogged down a bit. (it's a 5yr old dell desktop replacement. both huge and heavy) RAM is upgraded at max and it lets me ram preview only about ~15sec at a time. I will probably get a Desktop as well down the line, but really need a laptop so that I can take it to and from school without getting scoliosis lol jk.

Thank you for your quick replies btw...
