Signal not in range on Left 4 Dead *PLEASE*

I'm having a big big problem. I just installed my new HD 4830 from Sapphire. Its great so far, its running all my games perfectly. HOWEVER, when I try to run l4d, I get the message "signal over range" on my monitor. The resolution on the game before in installed he card was 800x600 and my normal resolution is 1024x768 so i should be able to go into the game at the lower res, and change it to the higher res right? But i cant get into the game to change it because of this message, despite being able to hear the audio in the background

I think it could be the refresh rate of the game is too high for your monitor. Change the refresh rate in the game to 60hz or below and it should be fine. Are you running Vista by chance? I've heard this happening a lot more frequently in Vista than in XP...weird.
