Hey guys im a little confused here. I get this high pitched sound coming from my psu but when I take a closer look it seems like it may be the graphics card. I booted without the graphics card running and the high pitched noise is there just not as loud. When running crysis though i get this huge loud clanking and high pitched noise in the beggining but then it subsides any ideas please help?

sounds to me like your keybored is acting up......

no im kidding of corse

i would think its your psu, maybe the fan in your psu is going out, and when your computer or graphics card is asking for more watts then the fan has to work harder, making a louder noise, do you have another psu you could try?

if not stop the fan with a pencil or somthing and see if it goes away
if it doesnt i would just buy a new power supply i wouldnt want that thing blowing up in your system

Yah its a 1000w antec its new so i wouldnt think it would be going bad but idk. I set up for an rma so will see i guess anyone else suggestions?

Sounds like the fan on gfx card might be loose or off balance. The PSU might be warming up or just have the right freq to cause a small sound. A decent case should cover up most sounds.

Some graphics card are known to squeal. What card do you have? I forgot the models that made the sound, but I'll look it up and post back.

it definatly sounds like the psu. with the graphics card out its less power draw so the fan on the psu doesnt work as hard. more power draw, more work

Thanks yah its a gtx 285 But im pretty sure its the psu. Now i gotta wait for antec to send me out a new one another week without my new computer :( haha

I thought my PSU was making a noise too. But after an RMA I still hear that same high-pitched whine. I suppose it could be the video card.

diduknowthat, can you look up the Gigabyte HD4550, please?

Still have the noise

Actually I am thinking the noise is still coming from the PSU, but it caused by an interaction with the videocard or the MB.

Any ideas how to diagnose or fix the problem.
