Is my PSU fried?

I have had an Enermax Liberty 620W PSU for the last 3-4 years and just recently in the middle of work, my PSU made a loud bang and I saw sparks coming from the inside of the case. The power to the whole house was lost until I flipped the main power switch. I proceeded to turn my computer back on and then Bang! another loud noise and sparks. I then opened the case of the computer and it smelt like burning.

I have lost an hours worth of work and most likely a power supply. Can anyone confim that this is the end of my PSU? is there a quick test to ensure that my PSU and any other components are dead?
 
Thanks for the input, but that didn't help much.. lol

I have searched google and there is a test you can do to ensure the PSU is fried. You have to jumper the green and any black wire in the 20pin power connector (While it is not connected to the mobo) and then turn the computer on. The psu should power up, the fans should spin and any other connected components should also power up.

I carried out this test and nothing powers up, all I get is a clicking noise from the PSU.. hmm.. seems gone to me, can anyone confirm?
 
Dead PSU. If that old trick don't work nothing will.

Looks like you'll have the enjoyment of looking for a new PSU this winter! :P

Could I reccomend the Corsair HX620. :)

I'm glad that hasn't happened to my 3 year old Tagan yet, Im about a foot away from my case, with the side panel off (as it gets too hot), So im not really looking forward to the day that it decides to shower me with 240v Sparks :eek:

When you said that, it obvious that your psu is dead.
 
Thanks for verifying that guys. I did take a look at the Corsair HX620 but it seems that is out of my budget. I will find a PSU for £40 or under, do you think a 500W would be suitable for my specs?

Yes, You'd get away with a 400W if it was a good brand also.
