Help with choosing a monitor

Hey everyone,

I am in need of a new LCD monitor and I don't know which brands are the best or what to look for in a monitor itself. I was wondering if I could get some advice to steer me in the right direction.

I am looking for a 24'' LCD with HDMI and DVI ports. I want at least 5ms or less response time, under $300, full HD 1080p, and I just want it to look really nice in general. I do a lot of gaming, no movies, and my girlfriend surfs the net and watches some shows on the internet in HD. What would be best options for me to future proof my monitor situation?

Here are the ones I am looking at right now:

Acer 23''

Asus 24'' w/ built in web cam

Asus 23.6''

Acer 24'' w/ HDMI cable

Acer 24''

Are these monitors any good? Do Asus or Acer make good monitors? Any advice or guidance is VERY much appreciated!

I got a Samsung, and tbh, tehy are really good. And look good too!

I dont know if the samsungs have HDMI, but It wouldnt hurt to try find one...

What you should look for:

Contrast ratio - Higher the better
Response time - (not Gray to gray, but rather black to black (GtoG is usually shorter))
Resolution - you can get something your GFX card cant handle...

Hmmm ok well the Acer 23'' claims to have a 40,000:1 contrast ratio with 5ms response time. It's also cheaper than the other ones and has DVI and HDMI ports. Will my 9800GTX's in SLI be able to handle it? Thanks for the quick reply!

So if anyone cares, I chose this Acer because of a few reasons.

First it has HDMI and DVI inputs, which is what I wanted. Second, it is full 1080p AND comes with an HDMI and DVI cable with it. Third, the price on this 1080p monitor was too good to pass up as well. I read some pretty good reviews and people tend to like them. I was looking at Samsungs, but they were too expensive or not 1080p. Plus the Acer has a 20,000:1 contrast ratio as well.

The only thing I don't like is that it's 5ms response time.

What does everyone think?

haha, and amd fellas! nice computer you got there btw.

Why thank you my good man! :) It's taken me years to finally get an SLI rig with a nice monitor for a change. I'm very happy with it....but I haven't put it together just yet. The computer is at the gf's house and I have the video card and cpu sitting in my living room lol. It will all be put in tomorrow with my blood, sweat, and tears.

So I don't see a rig in your sig yet! What's going on there? Are you building one or do you have one yet? If you need any help, definitely let me know. I've been doing this for years and have probably run into every damn problem a computer can have lol.

Thanks man, me and my buddy are working on it. I've almost got all the parts. Bought a Phenom II 940 3 weeks ago, got a Biostar tforce790gx mobo with in in a newegg combo, then I ordered 4 gigs G-skill pi pc8500 1066 ram last week, ordered a HIS hightech 4870 1gb this week, and a Corsair 650w psu this week. I got a hp lightscribe dvd-rw drive for it, and I had a case, but I'm buying a better case. I might go with a raidmax smilodon that's on sale on newegg right now. I bought a freezer pro 64 for my cpu also. All I have left to buy is the hard drive next week, probly getting a 500g 7200.11 32mb cache seagate barracude from newegg, and my case next week or the week after. Then in 2 or 3 weeks I am getting that acer monitor, and that will be it!! I've been working my butt off getting overtime to pay for it all. :D I'll post the specs when we finally get it put together. Got vista ultimate 64 for it. It will be a HUGE upgrade from my p4 3.06 win xp old compaq pc:) I can't swing crossfire yet, but maybe in a year or two I might do crossfire. My buddy is the knowledgeable one between him and I, I know a little bit, but not much. I plan on flying solo on a lesser build later this year tho. I'll let ya know if I have any questions. Thanks man.
