System Restore in Dell Dimension 3000

Hi I did a system restore on my Dell Dimension because I had a virus and I thought I had the right disks to reload everything, but when I get to the black screen that says put in the Windows Configure Disk, I put in what I assume is a Windows XP Operating CD that came with the computer and I press "r" like it says but it just keeps going back to that black screen and repeating it, am I doing something wrong or is there another disk I am supposed to use, thank you for your time

From my knowledge Dell's ship with the OS disc (for complete installs), a utilities disc (containing drivers and such), and other discs such as software. It would probably be best if you can find the OS disc. However, I think if you find an OS disc you can just re-install and the disc will automatically authorize as long as you're using the Dell configuration. Can anyone confirm this?

yes the OS is the one I am using I believe, however whenever I put it in and press "r" like it asks it just goes back to the black screen, thank you

Well if you are trying to reinstall the OS then you shouldn't be hitting "R". You stated you wanted to clean out everything so you would need to format the drive and reinstall not repair.

oh no everything has been deleted, I already hit restore and deleted everything and I was hoping to reload everything with the original CDs but it isnt working

If you have already gotten to the point where you had the option to format the drive then you have the right CD. It seems that you must be following the wrong commands at this point?
