Dreamweaver, FTP, Index.htm, and Me?

All you need to do is connect to your website with the ftp credentials the webhost should have given you. Then you select the files from your computer and upload them to the website and you're done.
CuteFTP but it doesn't link up correctly with the index.htm
I don't understand what you mean by this, can you clarify?

from the root directory there is a specific folder that you upload into to make your files viewable on the internet. you have to browse to the right one within the FTP. a lot of hosts will call it "public", or "www", or "public_html". if you can't find it, read through your hosts documentation.

(I have all my files on the desktop in a folder called "website")

remember that the browser will imitate the file structure within the FTP, for example if you upload the folder "website" to your root PUBLIC folder, you have to go to it by typing www.yourwebsite.com/website , where it will then read index.html or .php etc from that particular folder. there are many ways to reroute it, but for now it is probably best if you just keep things simple and put the files directly into the root public folder
