What have you heard about new GFX cards?

Cause I want to get my GTX295/4870X2, but DX11 is coming out soon, and with it, New GFX cards.

Im assuming ATI will be the first to release...

When do you think the cards will be released?

It doesn't seem like multi core gpus would be useful save a dual monitor setup. With CPUs multiple processes are always running but you only have 1 picture to display

yea.. but there are a lot of different tasts who actually process that immage. (like AA, AF , HDR and not to mention the physics. ) so multiple GPU's could be quite usefull.

either way, its just theory and rumors I suppose. I cant be bothered, and am jsut going to wait till thei're finally released. its not like you can change anything about it anyways.:)

the reason why i ask is cause I want to get a GTX295 or 4870X2

If new cards come out next month, Im gonna shoot myself...

cause then I can wait some more, if not, then ill get the GTX295 (I get the 295 for the same price as a 4870X2 here in South Africa, so im going for the 295)

the next card coming out soon from ati would probably be a 4870x2 with a refreshed die, maybe better clocks, but i would still go for the 295

The 295 just barely beats out the 4870x2 (some games the x2 is better at higher resolutions) so I do not think Ati will see a need to come out with something right now. Also they have not yet enabled sideport and once the driver support comes out the 4870x2 will be on top again. They will wait and realease the next big thing (5870, multi core gpus). Also by the end of this year Intel will be in the game and by the looks of it Nvidia and Ati will have alot of catching up to do. Intels card will with be a quadcore with cores equivalent to pentium 4's

multicore GPUs would help in the event that GPGPU technology reaches a level that is useful to consumers. Maybe video encoding or rendering using the GPU. For those that want to know a little bit about it, google Nvidia CUDA, it's really interesting stuff.

so you think they will release cards only in 6 months - 1 year?

if so ill get the GTX295.

The reason why im getting the GTX295 is cause it has lower power draw (According to reviews), and performance in the games I play is better (CoD series, Far Cry 2)

And it has PhysX, and TBH, nVidia has better driver support (which is needed for dual GPU cards)

It would already be useful to people that play at high res with everything maxed. At 1920 x 1080 at max in Crysis I only get between 35 to 50 fps.

Apparently the HD4995X2/HD5870X2 is going to be around €670 at release, thats the prices a few stores have it up for pre order right now

eum,
im dutch so i can read the site, apparently some douchbag made a mistake, you can't preorder it anymore, they don't know anymore if it will be released...

BTW does anybody knows if the 9.3 drivers already enabled sideport?
