I'm very noob at these.... just heard a lot of rumors about it here and there.

I want to know more about it...

what are the main diff between XP and VISTA...

and these are my questions....

1. vista takes up too much memory?
2. why would anyone take vista over XP?
3. compatibility problems for VISTA?
4. vista 32bit 64bit... what are those bits .. and their differences
5. please comment on any personal thoughts about vista vs xp.

Thanks!

vista does use more memory than xp but in exchange, programs in vista run a lot faster than it is in xp. if you have 2gb of RAM or more, you're fine. i've only had one compatibility problem with vista that is zonealarm firewall. 32bit and 64bit decide how much RAM your computer can utilise. if you have 32bit, you would be able to use up to 3.5gb of RAM. if you have the 64bit, you can utilise way more than that, at least more than 100gb. vista is good while it last. that is because i've had 2 major problems with vista which require me to reformat. and i personally like vista's look.

1. It doesent take up to much memory but it does take up more than XP does you just get those XP Fanboys that cant stand to upgrade there OS.

2. You would probably take Vista over XP because of the looks and the features.

3. Ever since SP1 came out there hasent been much compatibility problems there used to be with Vista but not anymore i havent had any problems anyway.

4. 34-bit and 64-bit allow you to have more memory in your computer. 32-bit only lets you have 3.5GB even that is enough for someone in my opinion. 64-bit is mostly used by gamers and graphic/video/game editors due to the high demand of memory.

5. I love Vista to be honest just hate the Fanboys of XP yer dont get me wrong XP is brilliant but seriously give over. I personally use Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit and ive not had any problems with it i love it.

ohh thanks! I probably gonna wait till windows 7 releases but definitely worth trying vista as my OS after your posts.. Thanks!

dont like vista

more bother to get on line, compatability issues with sony video software, my copy hangs up and makes false starts. My XP on second computer has run perfect for 5 years. They should have done like they did with windows 98, make windows XP second edition. I would happily trade my vista for an unused legal copy of win XP pro full version. I would agree with the above comment about using Ubuntu but "how to" books for linux are expensive. I priced one at $50 plus tax and shipping.

I really like Vista also...been running it in 2 computers and never had any serious issues. The only issues I have had is when I start tweeking where it is not meant to be tweeked. Super stable and reliable. I ran XP Pro 32 bit for about 2 years...I had far more issues with XP than I ever have with Vista.

Laptop - Vista Ultimate 64bit since the day it was released
Desktop - Vista Home Premium 64bit for about 1 year

i think windows XP is better because its just so simple and faster than vista. i have experienced a lot of network problems when i have installed vista and yes my pc is compatible with it but i just happen to like windows Xp.

Xp is the best imo,its just more stable and reliable than Vista will ever be.

Im hoping to downgrade to Xp X64,most of my games are not DX10 anyway and the one which is (Crysis) looks just as good in XP.

I like this topic. Vista has all the cool looks and DX10 (Which is not even that great...). For that, XP has a lot less bugs and compatiblity issues.

i have xp, and would not trade it for vista.

Vista R fast and i tink better dan XP. XP R outdated but peeplez know how to use. Windows 7 R better than both.

I hate these topics
