so for this new build i'm planning, i was originally going to get an athlon x2 3800+ but as i think about it more, it occurs to me that i might not need a dual core processor and i could get a single core that's faster for the same price or a lot cheaper. The new build is gonna be a media center pc but i'll use it just as much for gaming and internet and doing homework on word etc. The main reason i was planning on going dual core was so that i could do a bunch of this stuff at the same time but i may not need the dual core since i'm not gonna go any like video editing or whatever which i hear is what dual cores are good for. The word though is that future games are gonna lean toward dual core so should i splurge for it now so i won't have to buy a whole new computer in a few years?

Thanks guys

yeah its the newest thing out there...so if the price isnt that much of a factor I would go for dual core...

wait till conroe comes out, then make your decisions, cause you can eaither go with conroe or go with the am2 X2's (which will be cheaper after the pricecuts).

I suggest you go duo core for what ever your needs are. Consider all the background processes that you have with modern applications and security. Your computer will be very slow if you dont use a duo.

hahaha nice good thing i read through this thread i was about to flame this guy for asking a stupid question like single vs dual core lmao :gun:

this is ancient :D
i remember seeing it, and being jealous, because i was still on my Athlon XP 2600 + T'Bred :D

Honestly I see no reason anyone would ever need more than one core :cool::cool:

If i was you i would get the dual core. It's much better. Although the singlular core is still very good. Depends on how much money you want to spend
