Cant Play My Favorite Game

To start off I just installed Vista Home Basic 64bit so that might have something to do with it. anyway, whenever i play counter strike: source the game will get random stutters for a couple seconds and then eventually my whole system will hang. none of my other games do this and the OC is stable as of 1hour stress testing. drivers are up to date, temps are acceptable and im at a loss as to whats causing this. i tried re installing steam and css altogether only to find my system hangs much sooner when i play the game.

thoughts? suggestions?

turns out its because the game doesnt support 64bit. new problem though. i start it in 32bit mode and it doesnt start, just keels saying starting download

Why do you have to start in 32-bit mode? I don't have to do anything to my "32-bit games" for it to run correctly. Heck, I've even played CS1.6 on my computer and it works perfectly fine.

Try starting the game in windows xp or 2k compatibility mode.

edit: woot 7000th post!

ya i tried all that. and its still stuttering like a mofo. at least it hasnt made my computer hang in a while.

liar, 7001th post :P

yeah, starting the game in compatibility mode may help, and yes, I think it could be vistas fault, as the game is a bit older.

im starting to think its a driver issue because now when i play cod5 or watch videos my computer will restart... hmm.... i have the latest drivers for 64bit vista.
