Looking for some Laptop input

Hello all,

As most of you know I am very new here, so sup?!? I found this forum and wanted to get some expert advice on a laptop I'm looking to buy. I would say I'm a computer novice that knows enough to do damage, to my own computer that is. I've built this from the HP site for $1229.99:

HP Pavilion Entertainment dv6t customizable Notebook PC

My primary use for the computer would be for playing games, but not heavy. I haven't played WoW for over a year, but will be looking to get back into it, I also like First Person Shooters and Racing Games, oh and Chessmaster even though I'm far from it. I know that laptops are not the way to go for gaming, but I really like the idea of the portablity. I'll be able to take it with me each day to work to give me something to do for that damn hour that I'm forced to take. Then when I get home, after putting the kids down, I'll be able to dock it to my 22" monitor with 5.1 speakers and play. I believe that the 250 HD is plenty for anything I'll ever need, plus I have an external 500GB HD, I also like the 7200 rpm's on the HD.

I am mainly wondering if you believe I'm getting the most bang for my laptop buck? The price of this laptop is about my max.

Thanks and I agree that I'm probably over doing it with the system, hehe. I was wondering though for the price should I go a different route? Different system with close to or better specs for the same price or cheaper?

So last Saturday I ordered my laptop from HP and I think I worked the system pretty good. The laptop I built up was:

It was around $1300 for it, but what really got me pumped was before I ordered I decided to go onto Yahoo search and I typed in HP coupons. Wouldn't you know it, I found one that was $400 of any HP laptop that was over $1199, w00t! Then today I was surfing HP again and decided to build my laptop again to see if there had been any price changes. Well I seen that the HD was now $40 lower, the Wireless N and Bluetooth was $25 lower and the Graphics card was $50 lower. I then contacted HP sales and they are going to credit me back the $115 difference, w00t again. After it was all said and done I got a $1300 computer for around $800, hells yeah!!

On top of that it was time for me to upgrade my phone so I was able to get a Blackberry Storm for $199.99, but I had a flier come that said since my wife just bought one I get one for free, there was actually more that went down then just this, but I won't bore you anymore. I now ended up with $1500 worth of new stuff for around $800.

I really wouldn't get a HP if I were you.

There's so many better laptops out there then a HP.

I have the HP Pavilion dv9500, its died on me 4 TIMES in a year and 3 months, all I did was browse the Internet and use MSN. I kept it clean and it had no problems other then that.

Again you could get a much better laptop for $1200.

I've had an HP Pavilion Desktop now for around five years and an HP laptop for around three years, never had any issues with either of them. Plus like I mentioned, I didn't pay $1300, I paid $800....w00t!

hey ur specs for ur tentative laptop aka hp pavilion....are good ....
it will more future proof if u get a graphic card with a dedicated memory of 1gb with 512 mb it will perform gr8 ... but with 1gb+ it will be awsome..
and one more thing there is some issue of heating of Hp pavilion although i haven't heard of any pavilions getting fried but i guess u wont like it to be that way , the cooling vent for a hp pavilion is designed a lil weired .. i preffer get a dell costomised laptop...

I am also looking for a good laptop. But I don't have much money. I only have approximately 1000 USD, but I need a modern laptop that can help me in my work and studying. I don't often stay at home so that I need a small one that I can take along with me. Could you give me some advices
