Im thinking of getting a new computer but i dont know which CPU is good for gaming AMD OR INTEL

SO its Amd dual core 3.0ghz Or intel core 2 duo 3.16 ghz

AMD quad cores are better than Intel?

The new AM3 quads and triples are probably better for the price range, yes.
the 920 happens to be $20 less than a q6600, more efficient, cooler, at stock is about 10% faster (using futuremark 03,06,vantage) and overclocks better on average - the q6600 could be a nice g0 lowvid (<1.300) that oc's to 3.6ghz, or it could easily be one that pusses out at 3ghz.

the PII triples are awesome. especially now since alot of games only utilize a solid 2 cores, you get your two cores AND multitasking, and you save $50 and some TDP.

View the Intel chips as having somewhat more performance for given specs and the AMD's for having a somewhat lower cost.

The 940 BE is an amazing processor. They may not be clock for clock faster than an i7 you can still get them to 4.0ghz and that will definitely beat a i7 under 3.6ghz for only 200 bucks. I was an AMD fanboy when the 939 socket was out. Those processors outperformed Intel's at the time by quite a margin. Right now though Intel seems to be the better choice. For the 50 dollars extra that you could buy an Intel 920 you could have a better processor than the AMD 940. Yes you do not have the OC ability that the 940BE has but it is more efficient so it makes up for it. That being said the i7's still OC very well and I have been able to get mine to 4.0ghz for a stable everyday OC. You would have to take a 940BE to 4.4 - 4.5ghz to outperform the i7. The extra money that you would have to spend to watercool to hit 4.5ghz would outweigh the savings from buying the processor.

I agree with most of that, but there is more then just a 50 buck difference which throws the conclusion off alittle. Right now the 940 is 200 bucks and the i7 920 is 289 bucks, about a 90 buck difference. Plus with either one running above 3ghz, how many people could really tell a difference. Other factors involved too, motherboard/memory cost.
