Anyway to tell if optical drive is dead?

My DVD-RW has started acting up.

I have two of them, and swapped the SATA cables around, and it's definatley a problem with the drive.

I'm also having issues with RAM. Is there any way in which this could be related? Possibly PSU or motherboard issues?

I dare say, I should have said is there any way to see if it's fixable (dirty lens maybe?).

Or any chance it could have been caused by any other component in the system?

Could try one of those cheap kits to clean it, then again by the time you buy that, its like buying a new drive lol
