9550 phenom OC

I am currently trying to OC my 9550, and I need some help. I have the Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG to set it up with. I went in to OC it, and there were these settings: Manual, Auto, something?, and AI Overclock. When I did AI OC, it allowed me to increase it by 3%, 5%, 7%, or 10%. Naturally I did 10% to see what would happen. I saved and rebooted, ran dxdiag, and now it says each processor is running ~1.3GHz. Before it said ~2.2 or ~2.4. What gives? The manual option had several settings to which I didn't know what to do with. There were 3 multipliers and a few different volt options, but I didn't know what to touch so I figured AI OC would be my best bet.

Any help here?

I tried to overclock my 9550 and damaged it i only raised the hertz but about 0.2 as well? But mind you i am a novice at OC so i was guaranteed to make a mistake :o

Well I just OC'd it from 2200mhz to 2750mhz, but my screen went black and I had to hold down my power button. After starting it back up I went back into BIOS (thats where i saw 2750MHz).

I've heard of people hitting 3000MHz and being stable so I figured I could at least get somewhere.

I put my multiplier to 9x and FSB at 250MHz without changing the voltage (idk which voltage to change). It went black so I reset the settings.

ok ,pretty much all you have to do is keep turning up your cpu multiplier till you cant boot then if your happy just turn it down one notch then stress test it and see if its stable.if you wanna go higher bump up your cpu voltage a notch after blue or black screen see if it boots and so on ..:D

OK now it wont even send an output. I think its my gfx card though. I restarted my computer and everything starts, no error beeps, but the monitor says NO INPUT SIGNAL and it just doesnt work.

This problem was consistent sinc I got the computer. It used to just go black after loading XP, then reconnect the DVI cable and the login screen appears. Now it won't even register any input!

I'm not an overclocker but I overclocked my 9950 to see how that went. Not the same processor or you have but it is in the same family. I tried a 20% overclock and the processor wouldn't boot. I set 10% and everything seemed to work just fine. The measured clock speed was 2.87 ghz and that's not bad for a 4 core processor. I'm not going to leave it that way because it isn't necessary or valuable to do so but at least the experiment might help in some way. Perhaps it will only serve to explain that the 9550 doesn't react to the overclock as well as the 9950.

The 1.3, you probably have Cool&Quiet enabled in your bios. If you plan on overclocking, disable it in your bios.

There is no way your going to overclock a 9550 to 2.7 without a big time CPU voltage increase.

When you raise the CPU Bus it increases the memory bus and the HT bus. Set your memory back, say if your running DDR2800, set it back to 667. Set your HT X back one. Start raising your CPU bus up a few mhz at a time, when it gets unstable, back it off a few. If you want to go higher you will have to bump up your CPU voltage. KEEP a eye on your CPU temps.

Have you tried reseting your bios?

I'll take a picture of my BIOS reading 3300mhz for you, and how do I reset the bios if I can't even get a visual signal?

The voltage setting is on 'Auto' by the way. And when I went to 300FSB and 6x multiplier, I was running at 77 degrees FAHRENHEIT on my CPU and 80.6 on my gfx card.

dude, 3.3ghz on a 9550, i didnt even no that was posbile w/ that chip...

and btw over 70c you better watch out...

thanks bepo, im back on my old computer now.

it only recognizes 1790mb ram now though instead of the 3gb. what gives?

alright I reset the BIOS and it works perfect, then I tried to OC and the same issue came up. I am using my mobo's AI Overclocking now (10%) and I went from ~2.2ghz to ~2.4, and my RAM is back to 3070MB. My system is also stable.

All this taught me was don't put a 9550 up to 3300mhz lol...
