any help PLEASE?

i have tonnes of photos of my family and it would be really crappy if i cudnt get them off!

You could try just mounting this drive internally. It will work - provided you have SATA ports available on your motherboard. If not, I would suggest something like this.

Yeah, assuming you have a free SATA connection on your motherboard and an SATA power connector I would just plug it in internally to get everything off. Or to at the very least to know if it's the drive that's failed or something else.

well i use my laptop mostly (latitude d630) so i wouldn't be able to use that in any way, but i have a desktop although i don't know whether it has a sata connector internally, the motherboard is an Asus p4r800-VM.

and Zatharus i cant use that as i live in the UK and don't have any plug adapters lying around lol do you think there's a UK version?

thanks guys

thanks a lot guys, big help!
if i get that new hard drive enclosure and it doesn't work then i guess i'm screwed LOL =]

what exactly do they do that we cant do? :P

I was referring to a forensic analysis/recovery service. If your physical drive is not working at all, there are several things that such services can do that most people would shudder at. For instance, they can remove the drive platters and put them in another system to read and recover the data off it. And, if a drive is extremely damaged, they can even go bit by bit over the entire platter's surface with an electron microscope to attempt to read the data.

I would not recommend attempting this yourself unless you want to pay for such a service in the long run or just don't care about the drive any more. Since you already pulled apart the drive's case, and it is not working (probably just the interface), do not pull apart the drive itself! ;)

...though the innards are pretty cool... :D
