Thinking of an external HDD..

Ok, so my birthday is coming up soon (It's actually on Easter this year), and I have no idea what I want, so I started looking at external hard drives to store my files (my laptop's 200gb hdd seems to get low on space quite often and I end up deleting files).

I was just browsing walmart.com and ran across this:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8001583

It's surprisingly inexpensive and I've heard no bad things about Western Digital hard drives.

My question is, would anyone actually recommend this one?

That seems like a good deal for an external. With an external you must take a couple things into consideration. First off it is external and loading an OS on it will be slow due to transfer speeds. Also you have to take into account that they can damage easily, usually one drop and they're gone.

Have you thought about getting a Sata drive or IDE and putting it in an enclosure? That is if you don't want 1TB.

That is a good drive for a fair price, and it should hold up on you well. I have several.

You cannot install Windows on a USB or Firewire based external drive. It doesn't like to play nice even when just trying to boot from said interface. eSATA is another matter... ;)
