access denied

I bought a new HP G60 235DX notebook computer with Windows Vista Home Premium for a friend of mine. I loaded some photo programs: PhotoSuite and Photo Explosion. The programs loaded and work fine except when I try to over file a photo. After modifying a photo I select save and then receive a message that says "access denied". I can't seem to find any info to correct this so that I can overfile. The only way I can save the photo is to rename it. But I shouldn't have to do this. I've been using these programs on my desk top and have on problems overfiling. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

im taking it you do have admin rights. the saved file you have. from explorer right click the file then properties / security tab. the check box for permissions should all be checked. (allow). if that works. you should be able to right click the directory and do the same thing.

Thank you for the reply tremmor. I did what you suggested. When I clicked on the security tab, 4 group or user names were listed: Authenticated users, SYSTEM, Administrator and Users. Each one of these is set to "full control". Unfortunately when I try to do the overfile, I get the same "access is denied" message. Any further help is greatly appreciated.

im having a problem very similar. has to do with the registry. others will reply that are more knowledgeable on the subject. One thing though. create another directory. call it backup, testing or what ever. then try. im figuring you are logged in with a profile with admin rights. if the above does not work. create another profile or log into the other profile and see if it works.

Well I discovered one thing. When I modify a photo with PhotoSuite, I cannot over file but when I modify a photo with Photo Explosion, I am able to overfile. So maybe I'm thinking it is a problem with the program itself. So I'm going to try and reload the program.

access denied - folder

Hi there - i'm new to this game so i hope this thread - reply goes OK.

I had the same problem & here is the fix... You were doing the right thing already but had not turned off 'simple file sharing'

go to the following link for full details or watch a video on Youtube (just type in access denied..

support.microsoft.com/kb/810881 -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810881

or below is a cut and paste from the article... good luck

To resolve this issue, you must turn off Simple File Sharing, and then take ownership of the folder:

Turn off Simple File Sharing:
Click Start, and then click My Computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
Under Advanced Settings, click to clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box, and then click OK.

Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message, if one appears.

Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
In the Name list, click your user name, Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group.

If you want to take ownership of the contents of that folder, click to select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
Click OK.

You may receive the following error message, where Folder is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory Folder. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control? All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.
Click Yes.
Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and the folder contents.

cheers Boasty
