Stability problem

Hi, I have build my own computer for a while ago. The problem is that it's unstable, the computer "hangs" or I get a BSD. This happens about 2 times a week. I have also lite problem transfering via USB, the transference stops efter a short while and maybe it continues later.

Have tested memory with memtest and no error, uppdated to latest BIOS, chipset drivers and graphic card drivers. Tested to change sata cabel but no difference. Changed NB and DRAM volage (1,4V and 1.75V) and DRAM freq (1333Hz) but no difference. Everything else is on auto. The temperatures is good.

Some info on my PC:
Vista SP1
PowerColor Radeon HD 4870 "PCS" 1GB
ASUS P5Q3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP P45 S-775 ATX
OCZ FATAL1TY 4GB PC3-10666
INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9550 2.8GHZ 12MB 1333MHZ
CORSAIR TX 750W

One of the BSD stop codes was: 0x0000001E, 0x0000003B and 0x0000000A.

Please can someone give me some help, have almost lost my hope.
 
You mentioned that you have changed voltages and the DRAM frequency, what were they before? I assume that by leaving "everything else" on auto you are not overclocking?

Have you tried running a virus/malware scan?

They where set as auto also, I have reinstalled Vista and there where no differnece therefore it's not likeley virus. They problem appeared i think the same day I tried the PC for the first time. The problem can happen any time, there is no difference if a play games or just have screensaver on.
 
OK. How long did you run the Memtest for? And, what temperatures are you seeing in operation?

You may want to grab SpeedFan and run Prime95 while monitoring your system.

I ran the Memtest for like 5-6 h, or I think until it stopped and said that the test was done and no error had occurrred. The temps during idle for hdd is 25-30, for CPU 35-45, GPU 50-55 and mobo 40. Temps increase during load but not much, GPU max 70 and CPU max 55. I use Everest and HWMonitor.

There is one thing, the memory is not in the compability list for the mobo, every one I have talked to say it's not the likely cause for the problem. What do you think?

OK. Still, give Prime95 a go with SpeedFan running and let us know how your system behaves.

It is possible that there could be an issue between your RAM and motherboard. What are the spec'd timings on your RAM compared to what the BIOS is choosing as default?

Ok, I have never used Prime95 or SpeedFan so I think it would be good if you could explain what I should do.

I have stress tested with Prime95 and the result was:

Well, the point was to stress test your machine (try the second option down on the Prime95 stress test) while monitoring the CPU temperature in Speedfan. What were the maximum temperatures you were seeing?

Hmmm.... Were you still able to see the temperature or use SpeedFan at all? I've never run into this particular issue myself, but you could look in this rather old bug tracker note for a potential fix.

Some motherboards will show the DRAM timings in either mode. Some will not. You could enable manual settings and see what they default to.
 
I stress tested with the second option and the max temp for the CPU was 52.
The error I got was: FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4

Can this error message help determine what the problem is?

DRAM timings in BIOS:
Auto: All dram timings are determined by SPD
1st Information: 8-9-9-20-4-48-8-4
2nd Information: 9-4-7-4-9-4-7
3rd Information: 18-6-1-10-10

Don't know what it means but, can maybe be usefull.

In Everest, the modulespeed: DDR3-1066 (533 MHz) and timing for that speed: @ 533 MHz 9-9-9-20 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 27-48-4-8-4-4 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)
 
Yes, actually. That tells me you have some kind of overclock that is not stable or a part is failing at the default settings - which could mean a bad part.

Have you tried clocking your DRAM speed back to 1066? I know the RAM you have listed is 1333MHz, but there might be some issue with the modules or between the modules and the motherboard.

Have now set DRAM speed to 1066. At best the system have been stable 3,5 week, so it can take a while until I know if it's gone better...

You say that it can be a bad part, you mean on the mobo?
 
Either the motherboard, the RAM, or possibly a faulty PSU, bad hard drive... It could also be a driver conflict. More information on the BSOD error would help. The source of the STOP error would be handy.

The DRAM speed 1066 didn't work, I got a stop message 0x000000D1 with means "The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile."

So the problem I think should be either RAM (timing or bad compability) and/or something with the drivers?

How could I solve the driver conflict if there is any? As I mentioned before, I got the newest BIOS, chipset and graphic drivers what more can I do?

Is that what the BSOD said or what you looked up on that error? Did the BSOD reference any particular file??

Hmmm... It sounds more like a driver problem than a hardware compatibility issue. You could try un-installing the drivers and re-installing them one at a time. I understand that his can take an excruciatingly long time from what you have mentioned. But, since you started off saying that you were having USB problems as well, I am thinking they are related. Start the un-install re-install with just the USB drivers first.
 
Can I have suggestion , download the Glary Utilities and run the registry cleanup it might be registry problem just a thought. Doesn't hurt , its a good program to run.

No, that I looked up on http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.php ,didn't reference any file.

I might be stupid but, doesn't the OS drivers include the USB driver? Do I need to go to the control panel and un-install it there? Where should I get the new drivers from, the mobo cd or the asus homepage?

I ran the registry cleanup and found many "problems" dont know if I dare to remove everyone. Can it hurt the programs to remove everyone, so I need to re-install the os?

Sorry to leave you hanging.

Yes, ever since Windows 98SE a USB driver has been included with Windows installations.

Were you getting conflicts with the drivers off the original motherboard CD? If so, I would highly recommend checking ASUS's webpage for the most current drivers.

As for the registry cleanup: Most of what CCleaner finds and what Glary Utilities will fix are unneeded entries (program uninstalls do not always get everything) and things that should be fixed. CCleaner will always ask if you want to make a registry backup. This is recommended. If something were to go wrong you can always restore to that backup, but in most cases you are safe removing/fixing what each program suggests. It's good to be cautious when working with the Registry. I applaud you! :)
