Why does the Q6600 cost more than the Q8300

I want to upgrade from my E5200 dual core to a quad...Probably don't really need it but I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!!! The Q6600 is so popular...Whats the big deal?????

The Q6600 has double the L2 Cache of the Q8300,and i dont know if its entirely true but i heard that the Q6600 is a better overclocker too :)

Q6600 = 8Mb L2 cache
Q8300= 4Mb L2 Cache

You could always get a Q9400,But still that has 2mb less L2 cache than the Q6600.

Realy depends on if you want 45nm over 65 nm,personaly the extra cache wins over that for me!

Also the Q6600 is older, and it overclocks better mainly because it has a higher multi. Plus the 45nm chips overclock better and are faster than the q6600, eg Q9400 vs the Q6600 i would go for a Q9400, the cache isnt everything... the 45nm chips bring alot more to the table imo, except for the lower end Q8200/Q8300 because of the low multi. Most of the 45nm chips(mine included) are fsb limited... i could overclock mine easily further but my board wont post past 500mhz, prolly need more fsb voltage but i dont wanna do that til i get some aftermarket cooling for my north/southbridge.

i would get that 9400 its about the same price, and 2mb of l2 cache really isnot that much, you can look up the benchmarks for them but the 45 compared to the 65 it will be a way better overclocker

When I was researching chips to do my current build, I heard
that the Q6600 is a stellar chip.

I almost used that chip for the rave reviews and ease of overclocking,
but I decided to go i7. It was said if you didn't plan to overclock,
to get the 9400. But if you were going to OC, then get the 6600.

I really don't know, but for the money it could be argued to
not buy old technology, which is ultimately why I went i7.

Probably can't go wrong with either choice, and that alone says
alot for a two year old chip doesn't it. :)

i'm pretty sure the Q6600 is higher in price because it is being phased out. Time for the new stuff to come out.

It's supply and demand. There are plenty of people who still want the Q6600 because of its fantastic overclocking ability, and the supply is shrinking because of new chips. In truth, the newer chips are better and cost less, but they don't overclock quite as well (but come very close).

Actually the Q9400 overclocks very well, just as well as the Q9450... which i have mine at 3950mhz, excellent clockers.... but fsb limited:(

What is Intel going to do when the Core 2 Quad model numbers reach 10000? Is Intel phasing out Core 2 Quads in favor of the i7 processors?
