Hello,

I am currently in the market for a new laptop and would like some help for you guys. SO here is my story..

Budget=$3000+-200
Used For: CAD/Gaming
Important Needs: Durability, Longevity(upgradable?)
Things I dont Care about: Size/Weight, aesthetics

Here is what I am considering ATM. THis is not what I have my heart set on. So feel free change my mind and bash my ideas/choices.

Sager NP5797 http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_customed.php?pid=129131

Things I know I want:
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M Graphics with 1GB DDR3 Video Memory
- 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 2 X 2048MB
- 320GB 7200rpm SATA 300 Hard Drive

Things I dont know enough about to make a choice:
-45nm Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme Processor QX9300 / 12MB L2 Cache, 2.53GHz, 1066MHz FSB (Is a Duo with faster speeds better?)
-2X Blu-ray Reader/8X DVD±R/2.4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software (is blue ray going to take over

I would be greatful for any help. Thank you for your Time.

Sager makes awesome computers. I have had mine for about 2 1/2 years now and have never regretted buying it. I have never even had a crash or any issue...still runs like new. You really do pay for quality with these computers, great products from a great company:D

Who you with?

Are you going to be using this in the field? I read actually that the Military is using the iPhone because of its many applications and the fact that it is very mobile.

Alienware suck, way over priced and they use the same components as anyone else. Sager, has a good rep but I would never buy a Sager.

Toughbooks are good for rugged usage.

What are you going to be using this for? I think if you are going to use it out in the field I wouldn't get a powerful GPU/CPU if you are going to the middle east, since it is soooo hot there I bet your laptop would over heat outside.

The laptop you have chosen is outstanding, i don't know the price but if you can afford the Q9300 it will plow through anything, all of the others will to but that will much much better, 4GB of RAM is fine for doing anything at all with and the graphics card will run anything on the highest settings.

But what you have to remember is that with all of this power i don't think the battery life would be up there with the longest time laptops that are out.

Bluray will most probably not take over, a DVD drive is still the mainstream thing to get and you won't miss much by not getting blu-ray, you can always buy an external hard drive (or use the internal if you don't have that much stuff) and buy and download HD movies online, then you have all of the perks of blu-ray without the huuuuge price tag

Bluray will not take over. The market has reached a peak where most
customers are satisfied with DVD and are not willing to fork out the
big price tag for Bluray.

And with the trend to cut down on laptop weight, as introduced with
Apple's MacBook Air, you will see less and less people buying even a
DVD drive. Meaning that most applications, music, videos will be
available as download over the internet.

I just built a desktop and didn't bother putting in a DVD drive. I
learned a neat trick where I can use my home network to use the
DVD drive of another computer.

Actually they aren't bullet proof I have seen plenty of videos where handguns punch holes right through a tough book.

of course, i didnt actually mean to imply that you should wear this instead of your body armor, you know?

He wont be running on the field during war with gun in one hand and playing crysis with other.

He will be using his laptop in his camp or travel so it need not be as tough as panasonic toughbook an external protection would do due to heavy traveling

How did you install the OS then? with just the BIOS, there's no way you connected to a network CD drive...
