Ive just downloaded it. I really like it, improved interface, seems a little quicker.

Happy days.

Any of you guys tried it yet?

I should think they will have a CD for it.

It wont take anymore than a few hours if your upgrading it.

Unless your talking about downloading it from scratch.

I'm curious about these updated distros for Ubuntu. When you upgrade to a new one do you have to start over from scratch? (like a fresh install)

I dont think it works like that.

it seems more like a service pack update. except at the end it removes alot of abselete stuff you don't need. but in windows case that would be everything.

Yeah, I tried it... nothing new really. Boot time is improved and the login screen looks better. Oh, and they have a new wallpaper. :P That's about it. lol

I like it, the new theme makes Ubuntu look less like a coffee spill and more like a professional OS. Got try 9.04 server out too...

I am sure there are kernel tweaks and possibly some command line tweaks and added features that go under the hood.

maybe someone can help me. i downloaded this a few days ago, and i'm trying to boot with my flash drive. everytime i put it in, i get to the CD boot part of the computer's boot process and then it just hangs.

no errors no nothing... just doesn't do anything.

Currently updating on my laptop, i had the daily build of 9.04 about 3 months ago, and it seemed to me like 8.10, and i just reverted back to 8.10 by reinstalling, but there were no new wallpapers or themes then, so lets see how much better it is.

No, Linux doesn't use a registry like Windows. It works more like DOS did in the old days. It is not very hardware dependent. You can move a hard drive with Linux on it from one computer to another very different one and it will normally boot and run as it should.

The reason Windows is so fussy and unstable is that it has always been designed to run DOS (a simple control program) as a multitasking O/S. It started as a wrapper around DOS and still maintains many of those trappings. Linux, based on Unix was a multitasking O/S from day one. It is far more stable than Windows as a result but, of course, it won't run DOS without emulation.

I have some critical Windows applications that won't run in Vista so I'm not sure what the advantages are of keeping those old links to DOS. I'd like to see Windows modernized and redone as a true multitasking O/S.
