What is the brand and model of your motherboard?
What is your budget for the CPU?

its an amd 780g. my budget for a processor is around a $150 bucks at most maybe a few bucks more if there is great improvement.

Really need the Make and Model number. Not all AMD 780g chipset boards support all the AM2+ or AM3 processors.

can i run that processor in my comp for a few weeks before i get the graphics card and psu? if so i will buy that processor this week as long as it will work.

Yeah...
But really, you should look into replacing your motherboard and case also.
You might as well, putting all of this money into an OEM computer.
But that's just my opinion.

Maybe you could kinda lessen the cost of other components and just build a whole new rig.

well i thought about that but i cant justify building another computer when we just bought one lol. maybe ill go with a cheaper cpu to upgrade to. maybe around 100 bux.

Well really, if you can't build a new one, just go for the new parts in this one, and then later down the road put the old parts back in this one and finish off a new build.

thats also a good idea. can i run that cpu in that link for now then a week or two later get a gts 250 and power supply? then alittle later a new mobo?

Hold on there, before you order that processor. Email or call customer support and see if it supports that processor. Just because it fits the socket doesnt mean Gateway gave a bios update to support it.

True, true.
I didn't even think about that!
