I have shortlisted the following
1.Intel quad core 8400 2.66Ghz (183$)
2.Ati hd 4850 (170$)
3.4gb ddr 2 ram (60$) (Yet to decide which ram to buy)
4.250 gb hdd(50$)
5.Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L Intel® P45 + ICH10 Chipset 1600 FSB (120$)
My budget is 600$ max. Please give your suggestions whether all the parts are good or i can get better in my budget .
I wanna play games like crysis, COD, Nfs undercover pro street, burn out and fifa 09 at high settings.
THANKS!!!!!!!!

Well, for $600, you won't be able to play crysis at high settings. Well, you might be able to, but it'll probably lag a bit.
I'd also recommend at least a 320GB, if not a 500GB hard drive, and what about a PSU?

you should be able to get a 4870 or a gtx 260 for the price. 4850's are down to around 105-120 for the 512mb version. i think theres an msi for like 95 bucks now. would recommend the q6600 because of the 8mb of l2 cache. but if you get the oem, you'll need to buy a heatsink for it.

Actually, i would recommend going with the q8400 over the q6600(@bcoffee20), as it is 45nm and should clock very well. For power supply, go with one of these(Stealth has a little more wattage, whilst the modxstream is modular):

Since you arent decided on memory yet, i would recommend either of these as they have some excellent cas latencies:

Plus as a suggestion, take a look at the 750i motherboards and the nvdia GTS250, those would get you a little better performance than the 4850 and leave you with the option of sli in the future.

This is my thoughts...there are many Q6600 owners here but this is my reasoning...I am not trying to upset anybody.

would recommend the q6600 because of the 8mb of l2 cache.

Stay with the Q8400.

MAXIMUMPC did a CPU competition last fall, the 45nm Quads outperformed the 65nm Quads by 4-8% in almost every test. The smaller cache did not hurt performance what so ever.

The 45nm Quad also use less power and generates less heat.

The Front Side Bus carries data between the processor and north bridge chip. The higher FSB of the Q8400 will of course carry data faster. There are not many benchmarks for the Q8400 because it is so new. Here is a good one about the Q9300 vs. the Q6600. Even though the Q6600 is clocked higher...the 45nm Q9300 beats it. If you look around the web you can find a few 45nm vs. 65nm head to head runs.

You'll be happy with both processors, they will do everything you need them to.

Also anything below 500GB is not worth the money. Storage is so cheap and with such a small hard drive you will be battleing to find space and for what? The sake of a few dollars?

I recommend investing a bit more and getting a decent case and motherboard. This way you can upgrade if you need to.

Thanks people for all the replies.
1.I have decided to go for gts 250(150$).

As far as processor is concerned I dont think i can spend more on that and Q8400 looks good at its price.

Please tell me whether the graphic card is right for me and can it play crysis on high settings and most importantly fifa 09 and coming series.
And please tell me whether the motherboard is right.

Thanks.!!

Alright since your gonna get the nvidia card go with this mobo, it will allow you to sli in the future if you decide you want to:(after rebates its $120)

And the GTS250 will play crysis at playable rates with everything very high, 2x AA 1680x1050, as its essentially a 9800gtx+(i have an orignal 9800gtx, not the + and i get playable ratex with those settings in crysis). Just make sure you go with a decent power supply;)

You'll be very pleased with that processor...it will do just fine;)

That is a nice motherboard...but it DOES NOT support the Q8400:mad:

This motherboard does support the Q8400:D

That asus is also a nice mobo... but any mobo that supports the q8200/q8300 should support a q8400 also. Such as the evga 780i supports the q8400 and its last bios update was nearly 5 months or so ago;) But yeah, go with the asus, its a nice mobo;)

True...Asus says my motherboard does not even support 45nm Quads...mine runs just fine:D

hey whats your aim screen name. Ill Help You Get An Super Awesome Pc For Under $600.

The reason why i choose gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L is that it supports max 16gb of ram, so that in future i dont need to spend on motherboard.

Here we prefer to use the forums to assist with building so that other people can chime in, and also so that other people who are in similar situations can be helped out.

Yeah... 16gb max ram kinda isnt needed, as 4gb ram modules are still pretty expensive, and by the time your gonna need 16gb ram socket 775 will prolly be outdated anyhow.
