Hi, im looking for some new 5.1 speakers.

Any have any recommendations?

Budget is around £100 but that is quite flexible.

Cool, i used to use the logitec 2.1 Z-4 speakers. Would i notice a big difference?

Btw im gonna use these badboys for gaming music and films.

Oh, and vista prompt noises.
:)

Mate il be honest with you now,Theres no need to spend £100 on speakers,I have the x540 (first linked) and theyre fantastic!

Realy loud, bass is good,i use them also for gaming, movies etc.

i done a review for Computerforum Techzine here
http://www.techzine.com/2009/02/07/logitech-x-540-51-surround-speakers/

But yeah it will be a great upgrade,I upgraded from Logitech x-140 2.0 speakers to those and the diffrence was like night and day.

I just couldnt justify spending £100 on a set of speakers,I would rather spend that amount of money on a upgrade for my pc,One that actualy gives my pc better performance,Not just sound.

But without a doubt i bet those Z-5500s are worth the money,i just think theyre too much but he said he has £100 so :)

You wouldn't be saying that if you had the Z-5500s. :D

For the budget, I would definitely go for the G-51s though.

Haha+1 they are really nice, especially after you run new wires(cuz the stock ones are just too long and longer=more noise in the line+more tangles). For the money though, go with the G51, they are good speakers, better than the X-540 but either are a good choice. Or even better yet, see if you cant find someone still selling the Z-5300e for a good price, not as good as the Z-5500's but better than both the X-540's and the G51. Another thing you could think about is getting the X-540's and then a dedicated X-fi card like the Xtreme gamer xfi, as when you are using analog minijack connection the x-fi beats onboard hands down, once you go digital like coax/toslink then you may not notice as large of a difference, but yeah;)

oh and for the gaming.

i dont play games on my PC, i play them on 360, but i run my xbox and pc through a VGA switch so they have the some sound like.

so new sound card is silly.

If your playing on the 360 5.1 speakers are almost useless, as none of the speakers under 100 will have digital inputs afaik, and the xbox 360 only outputs 5.1 through digital.

It isn't true 5.1 but if the speakers have a decoder built in that supports dolby prologic then you will get 5.1 that is quite accurate considering it is from a stereo source. I play Halo 3 on my 360 with my speakers set to Dolby Prologic mode and all the sounds are directional and it sounds just like surround sound. I know the Z5500s have them, not sure about the others, I think the "matrix" mode might be what some of them have.

The Z-5500's also have a digital input, while the cheaper ones such as G51 and X-540 are only minijack afaik.

i shouldnt have any trouble running 5.1 on my 360 with any speakers.

il be using the green cable from the speakers into my VGA switch box as the output.

and the red and white from my 360 as the input.
