hey everyone!
this is my first post on here so please tolerate my ignorance.
I'm not fortunate enough to be extremely rich so obviously im not going to have an alienware powerhouse-rape-me-in-the-face computer. my brother left for college last week and left me his computer. lol dont hate me but its a gateway dimension 4600. i know its the crappiest thing on the planet. anyways the point is i would like to upgrade it. im saving up for some upgrades but idk what to get. i think video cards are important cuz everyone keeps talking about them but idk. i would really appreciate any help from you veterans as to what i should get so that i can play some of those cool games like fallout 3 or that fable game myfriends keep talking about.
 
It is actually a Dell Dimension 4600 I believe. Does it look like this?
Honestly, even if that is your computer, we can still help you upgrade, but I'm afraid you won't be able to play Fallout 3 at max settings.
But just double checking to make sure that that is the correct computer you have before I go on.
 
honestly i would reccomend you sell it on craiglist for around $250. And Build Your Self A Decent Core 2 Duo Rig For Around $350. And Thats If You Build It Your Self Price.
 
Yeah, there's not really much you'd be able to upgrade in there, mostly due to BIOS support and the stock PSU. If your wanting to be able to play any recent games really, you'd be much better off just selling your current rig like Russian777 suggested, saving up a little bit more money, and building a new system.
 
Ah... I was afraid of those answers. and yes, A Cheese Danish, thats the one.
However, I have slightly better news. my birthday is coming up, and my dad said i can sell my laptop, my brother's dimension 4600, AND he gave me his old laptop to sell and use the money i make to buy a new pc. i will upload the specs of his old laptop tomorrow. so here's what i have total:

1. Gateway Laptop MX6650
2. Dell Dimension 4600 Desktop
3. My dad's laptop (i think its an older fujitsu)

i know its the sorriest set of tech. but do any of you think selling those 3 would get me enough $ to get a new pc?
btw all of the above are in near mint condition, Very well taken care of.


(Do you want me to upload individual specs or do you guys already know them?)
(specifics for the fugitsu coming VERY soon)

If you can net a decent amount of money off those(eg- craigslist), and you can get $5-600 or so(if the specs are ok you might be able to) you could probably build youself a halfway decent rig.
 
lol thank you bomberboysk best news i heard so far. do you have any suggestions as to what websites to use? or is craigslist the best bet here?

To sell stuff, i like using craigslist as you can sell almost anything there. Post up the exact specs of what you have when ya get a chance and maybe we could refine what kinda prices you should ask on the stuff;)
 
thank you all so much for your help i really appreciate all of your time. if you have any additional comments ill stay subscribed to this thread but for now im going to sell all my stuff. ill let you all know if i score a good pc.
