Laptop does not charge

Hi everyone,

I recently bought an IBM Thinkpad T23 computer from a friend, but the battery does not charge. It will only work if i use the AC adaptor. I knew this when i bought the computer, but its starting to annoy me now. :mad:

Has anyone else had this problem? I am running Windows Vista (I know, silly on such an old laptop) and i have looked through all of the battery and power options, but i am still not able to get it to charge the battery.

Any help is much appreciated.

most laptop batteries will have to be replaced after 3-4 years but some even after 2. its not the laptops fault lol

So you think that i can simply get a new battery and it should start charging again?

I'm not very computer minded as you can probably tell! I thought that i may just have to change some of the settings or something.

If you leave your battery in the the laptop while being connected to AC power then you start to overcharge your battery. I have an Acer laptop and I overcharged it so much that i barely get 30 minutes into the battery.

Huh? laptops have circuits that prevent overcharging. What can happen though is that laptop batteries if you keep them charged 24/7 and never use them, can start to lose battery capacity.
 
Lithium-ion batteries lose the ability to hold a charge after about 3000 charges.
For some people that is 3 to 4 years, in my case, that was 11 months. A
replacement laptop battery costs from $80 to $150.

Mines used to be 6 hours in power saving mode. After 11 months, it is now 40
minutes. This is one of the expensive disadvantages of laptops.

Apple has been developing some battery technology that allows their batteries
to last 400% longer - up to 12000 charges. I'm not sure if their new laptops
have it implemented already.
