whats the scoop on the lattest processors price drops and how long should i wait til the price drops and stuff

Right now the E8400 is jacked up in price due to demand. Whenever it all cools down, they should be around $190-$200

I just looked at NewEgg.com and the Core 2 Duo E8400 processor is $240. At ZipZoomFly.com the listed price is $280 but they are out of stock currently.

sounds good to me

well maybe may will be a better month for me to possibly get started on building me a whole new rig

ok i didnt want to post a whole new thread but

here it goes i didnt want to post a new thread so i was wondering why is it on newegg the socket 775 intel core 2 quad is still 200 bucks new i thought it would be cheaper for now but all the other new processers of the quads that are in the ghz range with more ghz and less cache are under 200 or so?

The demand for Intel processors is setting the prices high. You probably already know this but Advanced Micro Devices Phenom II processors are the best bang for your buck presently.

The Core 2 Duo E8400 is presently $168. It's beyond me why anyone would pay this much for a dual-core processor when they could get the Core 2 Quad Q8200 processor for $165.

That's the CPU I want. I know they're brand spankin new right now - and I've always been one not to lead the pack on new technology. I'd like to buy when the Phenom II comes down to around 150 bucks and a DDR3 MOBO.

How long should it take for the price to come close to 150 for the Phenom II 2.8+ ghz processor?

6 mo?

8 mo?

because people are still under the impression that dual cores are better for gaming...

i wouldnt pay that much for a dual

The Phenom II 720 Tri-Core processor has a clock speed of 2.8 gigahertz and is priced at only $139.

I've looked at that tri core processor - seems to have some good reviews - nice OC ability with it. Had put it out of my mind a bit for the Quad core though. I may have to rethink that. Worst case - could get me into an AM3 MOBO that I could upgrade in 2 yrs if the itch was still there.

How long ya think til the Quad comes down to that price range?

The GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P motherboard is also a good choice to go with it will work with the Phenom II 720.

If I go with the Triple core - I'm want to get an AM3 MOBO.

I'm still in the neophyte stage from buying big box Dell - to actually learning about the technology - and what goes on inside the box.

The GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P is a socket AM3 motherboard. It also can also support socket AM2+ or socket AM2 processors. This motherboard uses DDR2 memory. But it supports memory that uses PC 10400 RAM (RAM that supports up to 10400 megabyte per second speeds). It is a good motherboard in my opinion.

AMD Phenom II 810 Quad-Core Processor is $170 at NewEgg. I don't think you would be at all disappointed in the performance of the Phenom II 720 or AMD Phenom II 710 Triple-Core processors (AMD Phenom II 710 is only $119 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103648).

Might I also add that the GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P supports all of the above processors I mentioned.
