need help with motherboard issue

Hello all,

First up i am a total noob but i have tried to do some background work prior to starting this thread.
I decided to build my own PC and I have run into a problem. My mother board does power up, the green LED light comes on, my cpu fan turns, the graphics card fan turns, dvd powers up and opens, the keyboard lights up for a second but the optical mouse does not lite up nor does the monitor show anything other than the initial blue button glow.
I have read the other threads i could find in the forum dealing with simular issues. I have switched the ram around, so either they are both bad or that is not the problem. I do have one mobo attaching screw not in place, did not have the spacer in the screw bag that came with the tower, but cant think that is problem. So i am at a loss and thought would try and get some input on as to why it isnt booting up.

my details on the system are
ASUS M2R32-MVP MOBO
AMD ATHLON X2 64 CPU
CORSAIR DDR2 2X GIG RAM
SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 4650 1 GIG GRAPHICS CARD
RAID MAX SMILODON TOWER
500W PSU

Other thoughts; I am utilising my 2.5 sata HD from my recently defunct HP laptop that has vista OS on it... i know that there isa very good chance it will not work and i will have to buy a new OS but wanted to give this information.

thanks in advance for the help on this.

that is kinda whats going on with my mobo i think it the processor in mine it was too i didnt read what it took jus wanted fast got gong ho and messed up

Does your board POST? Can you get to the BIOS?

Remove and reseat your graphics card? What kind of monitor
and connector? VGA or DVI?

that is the issue. I cant even get to the BIOS. It is as if i dont have it on. I am getting power to the mobo as the fans for the CPU and graphic card are working as well as dvd. I dont even get a beep. I have double checked all my connestions per the mobo manuel and have everything in the right place. So I am stumped..

Try disconnecting the Hard Drive then switching on, if you then see anything on screen the drive is probably dead. if you have access to one try running from a Boot CD/DVD such as Hiren's. A friend of mine had similar symptoms with his Laptop turned out to be a dead HDD.

i have removed and re-installed card. i initially had it in the second pciex 16 slot thinking that it may be the cause. as for my monitor i am using at the moment a VGA though i have a 1080P hd monitor that is going to be used once i get it going.

the hard drive is working as i had it in an enclosure prior to this but will try it without it hooked up as stated prior it does have an OS already on it and have read it can be problematical.

thanks all so far for the help and input/

i found out what is wrong with mine check the memory mine was dead and it did the same stuff

thanks Wicked but i checked the RAM out in my curent PC and it works. I would try the graphics card but it rquires at least a 400W PSU and i have 300W in my current system.
I am leaning towards a MOBO DOA issue.

Thanks to those who responded!

Got $20 says thats your problem. My system was doing the same thing, the mobo was distributing power but apparently wasn't doing any sort of processing. The last thing you can try is to unplug all your USB devices, take out your video card and plug your monitor into your on board graphics (assuming you have on board, didn't look up the mobo), unplug all your drives, pop out your CMOS battery, and try to boot that way. If it doesn't, probably your mobo, if it does, start adding parts back in until it doesn't work again and that will tell you where your problem is.

i have a asus p4800se mobo that does that im not sure whats wrong with it but i got it for free so it dont matter but the cpu is still good. sorry it didnt help you.

Sometimes I feel like a broken record. Basic troubleshooting calls for stripping the system down to the basics - power supply, mainboard, processor and memory. If that doesn't run then you have isolated to cause to one of those things. If it does run, you can add components one at a time until you find the culprit.

Thats the correct way of troubleshooting the bad device and i also adhere to the same procedure all the time....

Thanks guys for the responses. I have it figured out and am now up and running.. As for the problem... well lets just say I told you i was a noob.. :D
