Guys I still need help. I tried to install XP for my emachine PC with the restore disk. Long story short it would not install. someone told me that it may be my CD. I borrowed a different CD from a friend and it installed. Next, i entered the windows key from the BACK OF MY Computer. and it will not take my code. Why is that? This is my key for my XP why will it not take it just case I used a different disk. IS this not allowed? is there a way I can make this work? I really do not have a clue. I am not trying to get over on microsoft, i just want to fix my pc. I have a valid code but my disk is just not working. any help would be awesome.

hey,

I had the same problem. call the representative in the license key area after it tells you you have the wrong key and it will be an automated voice. go through whatver she says and then when you hear HARDWARE FAILURE, say yes, then they will say the new code over the phone.

You are most likely using an OEM key to a Retail version of XP, which you can't do.
