AMD - vs Intel - question

I almost bought that triple core for a budget system, but ended up finding an E850/mobo/ram for cheap. I think the triple core is an excellent value and will not leave you disappointed.

I'm waiting for the full line of AM3's to come out and see where the prices land. Actually considering forking over the extra cash and just goin with an i7 920 and be set on the CPU / MOBO for the next 3-5 year window. The price of those MOBO's is steep though and I'll have to get a video card to go along with it. Maybe they'll drop in the next couple of months.

I doubt any of the Socket LGA 1366 motherboards or i7 processors will dramatically drop in price in the next few months. The i7 processors are the near best on the market right now and it looks like they will be that way for a little while.

I was also unaware of how expensive the quality Socket LGA 1366 motherboards are presently. You would likely save yourself around $60 going with a Socket AM3 motherboard.

Yes they are expensive.

Add to that - none of em have an onboard video processor - which I was planning on using to get started and an extra channel of DDR3.

Total out of pocket - it's around 300.00 more for an i7 vs an AM3 Setup. I'm not a gamer - and want to be able to multi-task - so I see additional value in the core i7. But it's a significant price jump right now.
