I recently reformatted my hard drive and ever since I have not been able to get sound to work. As the main purpose of me getting this was to produce music on this is definitely a problem!

I am unable to tell you the exact model of the Satellite Pro as for some stupid reason, the sticker on the bottom is blank.

Whenever I go into the "Device Manager" and install drivers as it says that none are currently installed, it tells me that the driver is "missing necessary files"

Please help me!

have you run the driver installation from the CD that you got with the laptop, or have they been downloaded off the net?

hi
thanks for responding :)
all the drivers have been downloaded off the net
unfortunately this laptop was given to me by a family member who lives some considerable distance away :/

has the laptop been modified / upgraded at all? I cant find an exact match on the toshiba site, but I had a good look and the closest I could find was these drivers:

http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK&mode=allMachines&action=search&teddProduct=410&selShortMod=195K

just filter the OS as Windows XP the drivers as "Sound drivers"

You may have already tried them, but they may be worth a shot.

Still no luck unfortunately, whatever it is that I try to install it says the driver is missing necessary files. :/

AM i going about installing it the right way?
via the device manager?

all the things i have tried have been realtek
altho i also recognise "soundmax"

Well, this would be really easy if you just had the model number of the laptop. Does it say what series it belongs to at least? The series would be an A, L, M, S, or U followed by 3 numbers.

Its actually completely blank which is extremely annoying

help and support center > "My Computer Information"

brings up this

TOSHIBA
System Model: AFCF7___
BIOS Version: TOSHIBA Version 1.30

Mobile Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.50GHz
Version: x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9
Speed: 2493 MHz

So Im inclined to believe its an "A" model, but that could be something else entirely...

I believe I have identified it as a "Toshiba Satellite Pro A10" but I may be mistaken.... pictures look exactly the same, and the AFCF7 brought up this page.... which has TOSHIB AFCF7 hidden in it http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0511.3/0615.html

Im trying a driver for the specific model now
Ill keep you posted if it fails!

By any chance does it have high definition audio? You needed the microsoft uaa bus driver installed first before the actual sound driver could be installed.
