a bit confused about xp ram limit

on microsofts website it says the max for all versions of xp is 4gb of ram but since its a server mb and i have 8gb installed atm i need it to reconize more without switching to x64 if possible. the PAE switch is supposed to make it recognize more than 4gb but whats the max i can get 32 bit xp pro to recognize? ive been told it can go up to 16gb but im not sure.. anyone help?

As far as I know XP can go as far as 3gb only on 32 bit. I dont think there is any way around it.

Where do you get its only 3gbs. Its 4gbs. After hardware addresses it will somewhat less then 4gbs. depending on what hardware your running.
 
Looking at your sig, I'm not entirely sure if that what a serious post or not Quiltface :S Either way, awesome build, made me nostalgia hard (as much as one can at my age anyway) and no, no more than 4 on 32-bit, sorry.
 
32bit OSes can address up to 4Gigs of RAM. The only reason you would need 8gigs of ram is if you were running some major services or apps or perhaps a large database and you wanted your max packet size to be a Gig on the database queries.

Yeah Im only running 8MB and I am just fine. ;)

The dual 5 1/4" floppies is a nice touch huh.
