How does EBgames and Gamestop stay in business?

With ebay and other online auction sites selling games for less, how is that popular gamestores stay in business while charging more for the same games. Gears of War 2 is $54.99 used at the gamestores, but on ebay it sells for less than $40 shipped. I don't get it.

I imagine theres just tons of people who don't feel comfortable buying used off online sites such as ebay so they just go to the store. I also think theres a pretty large group of consumers who feel its just easier to go to the store and browse.

Just what I would guess though.

People don't feel like waiting for their game to arrive, so they go out and purchase it at their local Gamestop or EBgames.

Sometimes they can be cheaper on certain items, just depends(I recently got Cod 4 GOTY edition for $29.99 at GS,may have been mismarked ,I dont know).I like a retail copy of my games for maps knickknacks and such that are included .I also dont trust Ebay ,never used them for any purchases before.

For the same reason places like Best Buy stay in business. Sure, you can buy nearly everything considerably cheaper online, but a lot of people are still paranoid about online transactions. They like being able to walk in somewhere and actually hold something before they buy it, and they like having someone they can come and yell at if the product doesn't work.

Also, I'm pretty sure they make a killing buying as selling used games and equipment.

also keep in mind you USUALLY need a credit card to do ebay... kids 17 year old and younger cant get one.

I don't know, I'd figure in this day and age of internet and computers, people would be smarter to shop online and save. There's no reason for anyone to pay $55 for a game that they can get online for $35.

Easy, trading in a game and giving someone credit is pure profit. I trade in a new game and get $25 credit and then buy another $60 dollar game, then they turn around and sell that game for $45 and they have made $75 off the whole transaction for a $60 game.

You can't trade old stuff in on ebay or amazon.com and that is the niche that keeps gamestop alive and makes them lots of money.

I for one am the type of game consumer where I will go buy a game brand new if I really want it, or I will wait for the bargain bin if I don't want to play it right away.

I have played the whole splinter cell series and I always wait until they are $10 in the bargain bin before I buy the next one. I enjoy playing them, but not enough to spend $60 when they first come out. When I do that I also sometimes bring games in to trade which in return does make me want to buy more stuff when I start racking up more trade in credit.

EB Games and Gamestop = the same company

for those who didn't know :)
Hmm, I always suspected that because their websites are exactly the same, just different color schemes. I was puzzled when i first stumbled upon it but then I figured the must be the same company

(For some reason, EB Games website is down right now)

I can get onto ebgames.com just fine. Must be back up.

And when I was in Pennsylvania I saw a Gamestop roughly ten stores away from an EB Games. That made me laugh slightly.

I would buy my things online for a cheaper price, but I don't have a credit card nor do I trust Paypal all that much from things I've read. My dad always gives me a hard time for buying games from the store, referencing to eBay and the likes. :o

I have bought plenty of games online from ebay or half.com Never had a problem and never been scammed.
